Interesting idea for music. Need your input. (pg. 3)

All of the good songs were done by composers who were trying to get along with the tech they had at the time.

I don't think you can bring back an old genre out right, you have to have some kind of new twist to it to make it fresh.

An 8 bit version of clocks is not fresh. Not in the first world sense of the word.

Maybe the japanese would like it. They like that cheese euro dance rock band pop .

Never played the game but always thought this was a beautiful song.

what is interesting about video games is the history, I mean how like a team of 3 people would make something. The challenge of making sound effects with no samples , just a really bad dsp synth. Right now video games are really in a weird spot. They outsell movies, but they are on the verge of being something that is actually cool. Bu right now , they are just trying to make everything hollywood when it could be better. Music that actually reacts to what you do in a way that isn't just changing a track, ie having a piece with multiple pivot points where you could change the course of the music like it was composed that way. basically designing music like object programming. Right now , it is really static and unlike film where you can do that as the film never changes, in video games, it just does not work really well.

as much as i don't really play games, i think they are fascinating and have a really interesting future. I do watch trailers of games just to keep up with what is being done but i just don't understand the point of doing something when you could do it for real. except killing nazis.

The popular thing to do is to make a single player experience that is the equivalent to a universal studios park ride.

They want to control everything about the experience and hold your hand so you don't miss anything cool.

there is this movie called Gamer with Gerard Butler. I was expecting it to be but it was a rather neat altho distopic , is that a word ? , matrix like world but with video games at the centre. The synopsis doesn't really do justice to what it is about but it is a good flic.

Did you do the score on this one or something?
Looney4Clooney
nope. i'm not Ryan, not everything i post has something to do with me. Also , the suggestion has nothing to do with its music which i believe was a collaboration with some nobody and a Zimmer clone/spawn

Oh please. I think it's a safe bet that the songs you heard weren't created with a video game composer.

It'd be like, all you've heard is bands doing poor attempts at Electronic music (though Radiohead's Idioteque is amazing), but you come across an article saying a band wants to collaborate with Aphex Twin. Surely your ears would perk up, right?

I say Aphex Twin, because like working with somebody like Kondo, I think it'd be wise to collaborative with a seasoned composer to create something truly memorable. Rather than working with Skrillex or some douche bag like Korn did.

Also just speaking of video game inspired music in general. Ever hear of The Promoten? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Protomen

A band whose lyrics are inspired by a video game. Worth listening to

Oh of course. Yeah, and obviously I'm not speaking in the literal sense. But it'd be like Clocks, where you have the song revolve around this great melody that goes in and out.

Though if you're talking about how a song revolving around a melody has done a million times before, then yeah you make a good point.

I think one of the reasons why Clocks is acclaimed is because of it's minimalist sound.

So sure. Creating an amazing, catchy melody with a composer is one thing. But having it not only stick and become popular, BUT also make it sound fresh and interesting is another.

Honestly. Are you with the CIA and trying to devise a sound-track to my water-boarding sessions? Because I will sing like a mothering canary. I am a coward. You don't need to pull out the klaxon blaring Mario Brothers' versions of Cold Play and Radiohead songs to induce sleep deprivation. I'll tell you everything. I mean, there really isn't much to know, but if I have to, I'll start making up. His name is Issa or Ish or something. He's currently in Algiers but I know, for a fact, that he was planning on jay-walking in and around Times Square this August. Just please. Stop. I'll do anything.

Yeah. And I think there are games actually like that.

i THINK one may be this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_Sonata

I haven't played it, but I always assumed it was like that, actually.

And if that doesn't do that, I'm pretty sure there are games that do. Can't think of a damn one right now, though.
Looney4Clooney
no that game doesn't do it. no game does it because no composer has actually had the idea or implemented it or had the resources to spend the time doing it. I think in the future as budgets get higher and more money can be spent on better composers, it will happen. It would be much more challenging than a film score so until they can exceed the budget films use, which will eventually happen , it won't happen.
