Honestly. Are you with the CIA and trying to devise a sound-track to my water-boarding sessions? Because I will sing like a mothering canary. I am a coward. You don't need to pull out the klaxon blaring Mario Brothers' versions of Cold Play and Radiohead songs to induce sleep deprivation. I'll tell you everything. I mean, there really isn't much to know, but if I have to, I'll start making up. His name is Issa or Ish or something. He's currently in Algiers but I know, for a fact, that he was planning on jay-walking in and around Times Square this August. Just please. Stop. I'll do anything. |
Okay. Now I know you haven't actually listened to Idioteque with a comment like that! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sITshrzN_cQ&hd=1
not bad for a rock band's interpretation of an Electronic song. See if I were them, I would have gone and collaborated with Aphex Twin, rather than make my own.
Which is actually what I'm talking about with this. Instead of having a band try to do some video game melodies, team up with a seasoned composer. |

no that game doesn't do it. no game does it because no composer has actually had the idea or implemented it or had the resources to spend the time doing it. I think in the future as budgets get higher and more money can be spent on better composers, it will happen. It would be much more challenging than a film score so until they can exceed the budget films use, which will eventually happen , it won't happen. |
I mean, you're talking about a piece being mutated and changing by the experience in the game, right? |

you have never worked with a band have you ? bands do not want to collaborate. Being a producer with anything band related is basically a job of diploma because 99% of bands are comprised of ego driving drug riddled high school drop outs.
and video games are not cool. And that is a problem where being cool is half your product. |

no, the user has no effect on the actual composed music but how it is triggered and by composing music in a way that allows for various pivot points so that you can seamlessly go to another chunk of music like it was composed that way. But the user has no direct control over it. It treats music much like the programming of the game. A bunch of modules that can be called when needed except music takes much more finesse and skill to do it in a way that is not perceptible and without having to use the fade technique which games do now. |

Oh of course. Yeah, and obviously I'm not speaking in the literal sense. But it'd be like Clocks, where you have the song revolve around this great melody that goes in and out.
Though if you're talking about how a song revolving around a melody has done a million times before, then yeah you make a good point.
I think one of the reasons why Clocks is acclaimed is because of it's minimalist sound.

Clocks is one of the worst songs ever written.
edit: and that radiohead track was atrocious. |
