You mean...
"Angry" and "hungry" are two words that end in "gry".
There are three words in the English language. What is the
third word? Everyone knows what it means and everyone uses it
every day. Look closely and I have already given you the
third word. What is it?
"language" of course....
And the other popular one went something like...
"Disestablishments is a long word... Spell it."
And the correct answer, of course, is "I T". |

OK, now let's take this riddle apart and solve it as a riddle. Remember, that a riddle has a trick with the words or usage of the words. The trick in this puzzle is misdirection. There are words here that are meant to mislead you and they do just that. The first two sentences in the puzzle have nothing to do with the question being asked: "Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them." Ignore these two sentences. They are there to mislead and distract you. Works doesn't it??? Now, what is left is the "meat" of the riddle: "There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is." In the phrase, the English language, the third word is simply the word 'language'. There you have it!! Get it? 'Language' is definitely something everyone uses every day and in the phrase "the English language" is the third word! OK, now you're saying,"That can't be it; too easy!!" But remember what a riddle is and that the "GRY" riddle is a riddle - NOT a trivia question. |

That doesn't count as a true riddle, because is your deconstruction is correct then the riddle A) doesn't follow english grammatical rules, and B) doesn't count on any type of cognitive thought to figure out an answer because it relies on you either knowing the answer already. IE. no-one gets it right, and only know the answer after someone has told them, or if they guess it; it's just that a guess, and no amount of intellect has "discovered" the answer, it's merely a lucky punt if you get it right.
You can't have a riddle where people have to guess which parts are essential and which parts are just words thrown in to lead you astray.
Your riddle is pathetic, nothing personal TranceBunny....but I mean really..... |

In contradicts itself......
There are three words in "the English language that end in -GRY"
I'm sorry that's seven words.......
;)
and if it was only three then there would have to be atleast a comma, semi-colon, or full stop after the word language...pffffft :P
sorry I'm being a bastard, I just hate riddles where intellect isn't really important....I looked at the riddle and assumed the most correct answer was language, but then the "meat" of the riddle which appears to be the part about "-GRY" contradicts my answer.
And English-wise the actual "meat" of the riddle is the "-GRY" part.. |
