I'd rather be working with someone who is earning a commission (if they're selling something of mine). It means they have an incentive to sell at a higher price.

Haven't got experience with that sortof thing, but it certainly in theory is the same reason why I like using job hunting agencies a bit more than doing things direct. I'd hope at least they're gonna be negotiating as high as possible because they want a higher % commission.

you want information on solds as public information??? but its not. because its our information. we make the deals we know what it sold for so we share that information with eachother as realtors. It isn't public information nor should it be. You don't have access to how much Bob has in his bank or what his credit score is, why should you know how much he sold his house for or how much he paid for his car??

You do realize at least in canada that this is public information. How the do you not know this.

Selling houses :stongue:

Only a real estate agent would argue that his or her profession means that much.

If making money is your thing - and you're successfully doing it by selling people homes - more power to you.

I guess it comes down to what an individual thinks is more important: prosperity or personal fulfillment. Selling houses just wouldn't cut it for me.

and thats my biggest gripe.

It should be public information.

the mls listing doesnt tell you that BOB bought the house.. or BOB sold the house.. it just tells you that the house was sold for X amount of dollars.

This should be public information as it is a market sale.

We know how much shares sold for on the market. i dont think housing prices should be any different. It gives people an awareness on where the market is at so they don't over pay or undersell their purchase or their product.

Listing prices are all public, why not make the sale informatino public too.

I have my avenues to get info, but it's just annoying how sleezy some agents can be.

LOL really?

you obvioulsy don't have experience with this.

if it is already a high price commodity you are selling, the incentive is for YOUR agent to try to LOW BALL you so they just get the sale in.

the difference for them is a 5k loss in comission (lets say 75 to 70k) wheras you will probably take a 200k haircut in your price.. they will push you just to get a sale in, rather than try to meet your ask.

Obvioulsy you have the final say, but from what i've heard and seen is that they are not out there for your interest. At least the successful ones.

Agents are not bad.. sometimes the comission is worth it. You just need to know how to deal with them. The reality is, most people do not and an agent will take full advantage of it.

I used public information very loosely as a term.

It is public info. Anyone can go to the land registry pay the 5 bucks and get price history of any property.
What Karim and I are talking about is the sold listing. Where it describes the entire house, the days on market, room dimensions, upgrades yaddi yadda yadda.

Karim is upset that he has to hound a real estate agent for the information and what I'm saying is that its our information. Theyre our notes that we made when we listed and sold the property. Why the do we have to openly share that with the public?

If he just wants the sold price hes very welcome to the Land Registry.

Its more challenging then any job I have ever had. That includes roofing during the summer with a shaved head.

check out the stats only 10% of real estate agents make good money, the other 90% make 30 grand or less. Its a tough gig, but if you can break the code, there is large money to make

but anyways I didn't get into the profession to sell homes for the rest of my life.
