To expand on the racism toward the enemy, it is something that needs to change. The types of conflict that we are involved in now are a almost brand new concept in the history of warfare. When you were fighting nation states you could easily put everyone from X country under the same umbrella. With the increase in operations against guerrilla forces that operate and fight an occupying force, and are in the minority in terms of popular support you run into a change in the long history of how militaries view the enemy. Its no longer a people you are fighting, but a subset of the people.
That is a concept that is harder to come to grips with than most people realize, because its in human nature to group individual together by race/nationality. |

Absolutely, stuff's getting more and more complicated and very few people understand it. I don't even think top level US military understands how half the world works, which is probably a good thing. Hopefully it ends up with change for the better though. I think things like the Arab spring certainly show the world is improving though.
BTW do you have any talks or lectures etc you'd recommend Joss? I'm definitely up for watching 10 hours of material on something if it's good. |

Because the better they understand the world the better their intelligence agencies etc work. They aren't going to get very far bribing governments etc if they don't understand the people and are constantly offending people culturally. |
