You realize this is exactly what Marx was talking about when he said religion is the opiate of the masses right? Why is it good to teach people that there is anything more than the current life they have now? If religion is the only thing they have then the only thing g they have is false hope, a false hope that suppresses the masses and prevents large groups of people from bettering their lives or their decendents lives.

Yes I do realize this. You do understand that in some parts of the world, no matter how much ambition you have, you can't get out? Without an education, or opportunity, how do you expect to better your life? Yes it's an opiate, but some are in terminally stagnant positions of personal growth and might as well make use of it. I've heard enough people quoting Marx to last me a lifetime. Look at Soviet Russia: they removed religion and put a foot to the neck of anyone who still held to their beliefs. How did that work out? Was it the utopia the Communist Party suggested it would be? Marxism isn't the answer to all of the world's problems. Get over it.

The exploitation of children in the third world is thoroughly enabled by the suppression of women's rights and their access to family planning.

Yes, actually. Birth control is one of the only short term cures for poverty, and further, the social advancement of over half of our species. One religion in particular has targeted contraception as not only something of no mention in its holy book, yet something it wants to take an extremely harmful stance on, despite its capability to do otherwise and alleviate the suffering of hundreds of millions in a single generation.

Mind you, I never said religion was flawless, otherwise I would be religious myself ;)

Really? If religion was flawless, it would be absolutely correct that your life is in tautologically meaningless servitude to a celestial dictator that never lets you die. Even if it were true, it doesn't sound like something I would make an informed choice to support.

and money. Lots of in money. and a corrupt goverment with power changing hands to anyone who has access to a few hundred guns. it has very little to do with religion and has a lot more to do with predatory governments in power.

Atheism makes its efforts to denounce other religions under the basis of common intellectual sense

And that's, therefore, a flaw ;)

You wouldn't think it was a flaw if you were religious! *implodes*

Well look at the most successful and peaceful and happiest nations. Almost all are mostly atheistic save for the US.
