Reminds me of all these house producers that keep talking about how superior free jazz whatnot are and yet they keep churning out painfully conservative and average dancefloor fodder.
But then again, this just goes back to producers' age old fear of not being a "real" musician. |

Your reply for Holden on discogs is one I rather enjoy so that statement definitely seems a bit off to me. Either way... James Holden is an artist that isnt understood but is definitely leagues ahead of most of the mainstream artists out there. It takes a certain kind of appreciation and openness to enjoy this style music. I LOVE Old AND New Holden. Been looking forward to this album for a while. I personally look forward to anything he touches or creates simply because it is pure and real. Not at all like anything els. Organic. Original. Everything he says his music is and I greatly appreciate it.
The haters are going to hate but at least he isnt trying to make music to impress a bunch of idiots. After seeing the soundcloud release of this song I knew I had to come on here just to see everyones justification for talking smack. |

Glad you keep tabs on me. Everyone els does the talking for most other producers. Holden has been one of my top guys since I started listening to the genre at 12. So pardon me for being a BC fan. His top "Trance" selection was certainly out there but can you honestly say any other artist would have done that? Probably not. Most Artists are conformists trying to win the popularity contest. I give James credit for doing this and ignoring all the fanboys. |

It's more to do with the misguided notion that experimentation and "innovation" are inherently valuable, as if just by being a bit weird a musician is automatically doing something more valuable than conventional music. Actually, experimental music can be utterly , and is not above criticism.
DJ Legs has clearly never even seen a copy of The Wire magazine in his life, because if he'd read just one issue he'd realise that Holden is just one of thousands of people doing things differently to "mainstream artists". It's only when you compare Holden to straight-up club music that his output has any kind of artistic interest, which is why Holden is still talking about trance and dissing club music almost a decade after he apparently got out of that scene. |
