The only people getting emotional in here are the Holden Haters. if I worried about peoples personal opinions all the time id be miserable and vocal too. So just chill and realize many people enjoy his stuff still, like me, and us MUSIC lovers dont give a damn about your opinion about his personal life which affects us none. I thought this was TranceAddict, not Maury. |

This is like we're stood in a bar saying "Oh man, James Holden is a bit of a twat isn't he?" and you overhear and wander up to say "You're all talking smack, he's a genius!" and then when we calmly list the reasons why he's a twat you start loudly saying "I don't give a damn what you think!" If you don't give a damn about what I think, stop replying to my posts. Walk away in that metaphorical bar, DJ Legs, walk away. |

Of course I wouldn't go up to him apropos of nothing and just say "Oi James you big twat", but if I was in a room with James Holden and he said something like that press release out loud, I would absolutely have it out with him. I once ripped into these awful trance DJs called Hiddenagenda outside a club for playing Cosmic Gate - Firewire at 10pm in one of the stupidest warm-up sets I've ever heard.
Let's see if you can get out of this thread without saying something to the effect of "Calm down buddy". |

A conversation? Really? This thread is about James' new album release. Not about how you feel about him as a person. The fact is your perception of him is ignorant and I called you guys out for it. If you dislike this guy so much than find another place to post your ignorant crap. I personally have never heard anybody judge music because of how an artist views the music industry. |

Holden's views and perspective on his music are directly tied to what that music sounds like. What an artist says (in the press release for his album, no less) reflects his creative vision and ideology. In this case, Holden's attitude is clearly audible in the music he makes, which is a ty approximation of experimental electronic music for people who don't listen to experimental music, justified by a self-protective fallacy that because he isn't making uplifting trance he is a visionary genius above criticism. My criticism of your behaviour as a Holden fan, my criticism of Holden's attitude and my criticism of Holden's music comes together to make a holistic point.
But frankly I don't even know why I'm bothering to write any of this, because it's clear you are an utter fanboy who won't really take on board what I'm saying and just lurch into another idiotic statement about how you like Holden and nobody can stop you liking Holden. Good for you.
I also find it massively ironic that you don't appear to know what the word "ignorant" means. |

I enjoy the debate. But I don't really feel like continuing, we have both expressed our views on why we feel the way we do and its pointless to clutter this thread with more BS. As I said this thread should be for talk about the album and not people calling him a twat. I definitely am a fanboy and it sucks to see people who were once fans of his MUSIC are now saying some pretty negative things about him as a person. You make a point with how his standpoint could change how he thinks about making music but that also doesn't change the fact that he is making music he enjoys. Which is what I personally enjoy. Dont you think your emotional ties to his personal views might cloud your opinion on his music?
But really though, after smoking a bit I just want to enjoy some Balance 005 and not argue about it. We should be here because we share a common interest and id rather embrace that. |

It's one thing to give an opinion on what he is doing and it's another to just start name calling. "Having it out" can be a lot different then calling someone a twat; although "Having it out", to me, still seems a bit aggressive and if that is how you approach people, then you may want to reconsider that approach. You do it on a daily basis on here; I find it hard to believe that when you are out in clubs or whatever, if you overhear a conversation that you disagree with, you just walk right over and voice your opinion as you do here. |
