outstanding thread.

Ishkur, you say your beliefs are based on facts. Please reference the published sources. And no a msg board is not a viable source. I need an isbn#.

The books u listed have very little to do with trance or progressive. The dan sicko book is also highly biased to what the detroit guys have promoted themselves with.

There also is no definitive first progressive house record because progressive isnt even a genre. Its a style of house. The term was very loosely used, even for dub house records with few vocals.

Ill respond to your reply soon and put up PART B over the weekend. The debate will continue.

This is precisely the problem. Too many geeks talking about the beginning of a scene theynever took part in. Punters are defined as those who attended events. Of course personally knowing old djs of our scene was a tremendous help to write my book. Thanks also to all the trance addict respondents who provided positive comments and support to me offline. The trance scene is not completely dead. I still see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ah, I see. So you talked with some people who were there at the beginning, therefore you know more than the people who weren't. Because no one else did that except you.

Your knowledge is truly boundless.

Actually the dave clarke comment was posted on trance addict. I think i saved the thread somewhere, ill try to look for it eventually. Oh and to those who ask for references, youll find in my book the references to the actual vinyl.

Ishkur, since you claim that trance has nothing to do with house, please list me here your opinion on what the actual first trance release is.

Neither of those are a viable source. I'm afraid we're gonna need an isbn#.

What beliefs? You're not a Creationist by any chance, are you? ...you're using a very common Creationist tactic, asserting that everything is belief because nothing is definitely knowable.

It's sophistry, and it's bull.

What makes an isbn# more valid than a primary source? How many isbn#s did you cite in your book?

here, watch this. Understand more. Listen to LOTS of music (I'm talking thousands of hours), make connections. Your primary focus should be labels and cities -- they are the chief movers of scene zeitgeists. Find out who got what from where, hear the influences from neighbors (ie: Belgian New Beat/EBM => German Trance), corroborate sounds with articles and literature, zines, and interviews/conversations. Never rely on single sources. Pick the most probabilistic outcome based on the evidence. You're not just a writer, you're a scientist and an archeologist, but unless you start digging, you're never going to reach an informed conclusion about anything.

Right now you are uninformed. Very uninformed. Very, terribly, ludicrously uninformed.

As opposed to the non-Detroit guys who invented Techno? ...what the is wrong with you? Why wouldn't a book about Detroit Techno be about Detroit Techno? It's like complaining that a book about WWII is biased toward the Allies because they won.

"It's not a genre, it's a style".

Right. I suppose it could be anything you want if you just redefine the terms to fit your worldview.

I'm done with you.

No. You're wrong and I have better things to do, and I have no interest in arguing with someone who is just going to dismiss everything I shove in front of his face as my "beliefs". Seriously, you. Your book is terrible and you're doing more harm than good.

Probably this.

The thing you have to understand is that Trance came from EBM proper, and it was a short-lived experimental thing for a few years for many Wax Trax! artists before it smoothed out its industrial heritage and moved to Germany. There are earlier tracks one could make an argument for (for instance, this or this or even this although that's acid despite the namesake), but they fit closer with Belgian EBM as no trance scene or culture quite existed yet.

(PS: Force Legato is Oliver Lieb)

I don't doubt you will use everything I just told you in the next edition of your book. It worries me not, considering you will have to fully rewrite up to 90% of it just to keep things consistent for one thing, and you will probably copy-paste verbatim without ever corroborating anything I told you (against my explicit directions). To take these things into account will take much more time than you're willing to spend on the subject, and by then my new guide will be released and you will remain safely irrelevant.

That's why you're the human personification of fail right now.

I just can't even wrap my head around this guy. I mean did he say that he was actually selling copies of this? I guess I need to start turning out ebooks if this poor quality can actually sell. I'm instantly an authority on everything because I wrote about it!
