Tiesto's remix laid the blueprint for how a vocalist should lace up a trance joint, let alone a vocalist who has nothing to do with trance. His remix is your favorite trance dj's favorite vocal trance joint.

the above & beyond mix makes much better use of the vocals. especially the last verse... goosebump material, even in a jaded 2013.
although, in magik 7 there is a great goosebump moment where the vocal, synth and live crowd all converge.

Above & Beyond laid the blueprint for all those wack trance producers that emerged in the 2000's, mostly the latter part of that decade. They use certain cookie cutter elements in their tracks and if I knew the terminology, I would gladly lay them out. I don't mean to be cold, but I'm glad they debuted in 2000 and not 1999.

Funny enough, Sarah's vocals were never intended for a trance remix in the first place (which is likely why it's endured as a classic). Hell, Silence wasn't even a proper single off Karma when that album first came out. It's quite bizarre it became such an anthem a couple years after the fact, though likely because that Fade remix cropped up on Northern Exposure: Expeditions and got the ball rolling.
