This is a truly disgusting phase one. Wow. All my favorite Detroit boys (DTM, Hawtin, Mills, Huckaby, Pullen, T.Dixon, Larkin, C.Craig) + Loco Dice + Carl Cox + Adam X = holy sheeeit. They could not announce anyone else and I'd be happy with the lineup. Well if it was 2 days I guess, not enough there for 3 days, ha.

Who does everyone want to see for Phase 2?

Me? Aril Brikha (his 2011 Detroit stage set was sublime, wanna catch it again), Luigi Madonna (huge fan of his productions and the few sets/podcasts out there are sickkk), Sian (same situation as Luigi), Advent + Industrialyzer, Claude VonStroke, and finally Cari Lekebusch.

Give me 3 of those 6 and it'll officially be the greatest tech festival ever, why, cause I said so.

I love that this thing's a showcase for Detroit techno. Didn't know much about that side of things before I went for the first time several years ago and after experiencing that weekend, it's like there's an "understanding" of that sound and what it means to not just the scene, but Detroit and those people in particular. You don't get this anywhere else. WMC, Amsterdam, etc just doesn't have that deep, connected vibe with the music the way Detroit does with that weekend.

+ Deetron & Disclosure would love to see seth troxler as well, i know he is a regular there, just never seen him as well as kerri chandler.

CarS - I've been going for years and they keep making impovements to VIP. They have greatly increased the size of vip and upgraded the perks and...... I have yet to find a reason to do vip or regret not doing it. Even for drinkers, I have no idea why that partticular perk would be enticing when you can leave the festival anytime you want and grab a quick beverage at liquor store/hotel room. The festival was rammed last year plus they did have boiler room in vip, but I still have no regrets doing GA.

LoveHate - I'm guessing the majority of that is flight, but $1300+ is a lot for a trip to Detroit. Spending money shouldn't be too much because it is Detroit. The festival itself is amazing, but afterparties are great and can be done on the cheap. I agree with Sedna that it is something that must be done, but I'd defintitely make the stipulation that a love for techno and tech house would make the decision much easier. I don't know if I'd say the "experience" is worth that much money, but if you're on board with these genre's then you will have the time of your life, and it will be worth even more than that.

Thanks for the tip, went ahead and booked my flight and bought a VIP ticket , there no going back (non refundable) I figure the experience is going to be priceless, never going to see these artist again anyway (scene here sucks) , now I just gotta live on canned tuna for awhile, and anticipate the next phase!

Aril Brikha would just make my year

everything already reserved & purchased for this.

i can't wait for the memorial day weekend.

phase 1 alone is good enough for me.

im doing vip myself but people could be fine without it. i just dont mind paying for little more comfort these days. yeah drinking shouldn't be a problem but i cant' see myself going back and out of the festival to save money on drinks.

i wonder if they will be more vip percs this year considering it cost marginally higher than previous years specially this early into it.
xpand3r
they did announce their prices would go overall due to production costs. im not sure if there would be more percs but i will be satisfied if its same as last year.
CarS
inflation, is all

Honestly, I couldn't imagine going to DEMF without VIP. I know I wouldn't want to. The vibe up there on the VIP hangout is awesome and there's lots of places to chill. Plus the VIP entrance is super-quick with zero harassment whatsoever. You get a bunch of free drinks too.

Being able to go back to the hotel for an hour or so to relax during the middle of the festival, and being able to just go right back in without waiting even 30 seconds is clutch. Guess it just depends on what you're looking for. I value my comfort and relaxation when traveling for house/techno events. Too much hustle-bustle with a lack of creature comforts and the fun just isn't the same. Then again I also think the festival is hands-down the best part about the weekend -- the afterparties just aren't on the level as what's offered in other parts of the country so it's not as big of a deal to me. I like Bleu though -- nice club. Elysium was perfect for dark banging techno but it's gone.

The festival is incredible. I drove 14 hours for it, many on this board did the same. It truly is something you have to do once in your life at least. If you have the money, go for it. You will not regret it.

I actually thought the city was fascinating to walk around in. Kind of like an eerie, post-apocalyptic feeling. There's a badass diner that serves a great greasy breakfast -- totally forgot the name though. Lots of cool old-fashioned architecture and it certainly has a gritty feel. A walk around downtown is worth the couple hours or so.
