wait up wait up waaaait up... so Coda (794 Bathurst )... is just the Annex Wreckroom??? Is this what i am to understand? um..ok. I mean i love that space for a small party.. I played there for a Balance event once and it was cool. But.... its just the Annex Wreckroom come ooooon....
I thought we were getting a brand new club with a brand new venue.
I guess it shouldn't matter that its on top of a pizza pizza right :/ |

A lot of clubs used to be another club beforehand. It's just a building, it's not like they're using the same setup. |

Actually I can, because it is completely true. :P
Lets just take a look at what is new in the new CODA from Old 794 / Annex Wreckroom when it opens. You will quickly notice pretty much everything is new
and that the old Space has been taken to its frame and then built up from scratch around that.
And First you must understand to start a new club it must be built on an existing Liquor License from an old club address. You cannot get a new liquor license and just start building a new building. The AGCO does not give new club licenses anymore to nightclubs. The last of its kind was for Circa.
Right now the club is under Massive Construction until it open January 18th.
And then its lift-off !!

What!? I knew it was difficult to open new clubs in most areas due to hostile BIAs, but if that's the case then that's some serious bull. |

Think about a few examples.
Ryze used to be Moskito.
And Moskito used to be a Spanish Club. And Before that Spanish Club it was another
Spanish Club for 10 years. Moskito / Ryze didn't just get a liquor license because they applied for one.
Even the old footwork was a different club before it was footwork at 425 Adelaide st.
The only exception to this rule are after hours club like Boa and Sonic etc because
they don't serve alcohol so the rules don't apply.
Nowadays its the only way a club can get one. |
