Wow, where do I begin with this extravaganza? I can honestly say that this was the BEST party that I have EVER been to. I had grandiose expectations of this party and it was one of the few times in life where reality actually surpassed fantasy.
Upon arriving in the line up at around 11pm, I was astonished at how well the event was organized. There were men in costumes jumping around on springs and with fireworks emanating from their helmets , which gave the party a very festive feel. The atmosphere was very vibrant and inviting. After waiting in line for 20 min or so, I entered through the Kool Haus, and soon proceeded to the Guvernment as the sounds of progressive were becoming quite monotonous and left me with a slight hint of melancholy.
Upon arriving at the Guv. I felt the uttermost nostalgia. The feeling of “coming home” again elevated my mood to a great degree. I soon settled down and began to enjoy the sweet sounds of Mark Oliver. Even though I expected to hear a good opening set from Mark, I did not expect to be blown away. His set was absolutely phenomenal; I felt the culmination of classic anthems all merged into one unified body of bliss. When he dropped tracks such as Airwave, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Feel Free, Binary Finary, I went nuts.
It was such a treat listening to Mark that I had no desire to rush hearing the feature DJ. Nevertheless, when the Flying Dutchman stepped behind the decks at an early time of 3:05 I could hardly contain my joy. I loved his opening track (don’t know why so many of you have a problem with Seven Cities, you all loved it when Armin dropped it a few months back). Anyways, soon after Corsten’s set really took off and I was feeling the divine pleasure of his transcendental journey. It took me to a place that was so spiritual it defied logical explanation. I really felt one with God, as well as fully immersed into the collective consciousness of humanity. The way he orchestrated his set was simply sublime. He threw down one anthem after another, and the flow of his set was on par with the best I heard.
Its hard for me to understand why so many people had a problem with Corsten’s set, I truly believed that it was awe inspiring. His melodic orchestra was phenomenally ecstatic. It touched deep into one’s soul elevating one’s spirit high beyond its limit. At times I had tears in my eyes, for my soul could not possibly contain so much beauty all at once. Ultimately, his set concluded with a brilliant finish, and to top things off Mark closed the night with “Time to say Goodbye”, how fitting.
Furthermore, the night was definitively enhanced by the presence of so many TA s, shouts going out to Cloud9, Bliss’n’trance, Sarcoman, DieTCocaine (it was great seeing you again man, hope we have many more parties like this one), Tatgirl, Time2Burn, KevinExcite, Malice, Infinity High, Endlesswave, TranceArmanda, DJ El Kay Dee, E-master, and I believe it was my first time meeting DJ Hordash and Mecha. You guys helped to make the night memorable and your presence added a flavor of familiarity.
Lastly, I was totally blown away by the décor of the Guv. The acrobats and the extravagant dancers helped to create a feeling of being immersed in a surreal world of magic and fantasy. The light shows were incredibly rich and vibrant enticing us with a real visual treat. This was definitively a world-class event and one that will go down in history as the best the scene can offer, at least in my eyes.
On a side note, I really have a sense of disdain for all the arguing that is going on in these forums. We are all here because we share a passion for the music. Let’s not personal biases in music preference get in the way of this unique sub-culture which seemed so solid and unified at one point.
I am still amazed how great this party really was, and I seem to have a hard time assimilating this experience into my everyday reality. Perhaps, experiencing such sheer bliss if hard for us mortals to accept, living in this neurotic and ever constricting society. |

It is so true. I was deeply moved by his set. It had everything energy, beauty, and melody. If only someone had recorded this masterpiece. |

You guys are seriously making me jelous. Seaman is one of my favs and I had to go back home for Thanksgiving Dinner:(
Although that Tracklisting for Oliver and Corsten looks AMAZING! Especially Olivers.... I would have died if I was there for all those classics!!!!!!! Hopefully he will keep some of those vinyls on the top of his crate.
Anyone have a listing for Seaman? What mix of Two months of did he spin?
Anyways really mad that I missed this one, reading the reviews.....
People have a right to their own opinion, don't jump on someone cause they dont agree with you cause not everyone will. Not everyone just likes trance. |

With much regret I cant remember any of Corsten's Set with the exception of 1 or 2 tracks. Corsten made a killer vibe. Once again he partied with us right till 8:00ish. I was surprised he didnt play dance valley theme. That track usually brings me back to a memorable state.
Mark Oliver played an amazing set. he summed up 6 years in a few hours. WOW. |

Ok, now that i'm done reading all the drama ;), it's time to post my review...allbeit a few days late.
First off, I gotta say that Guv was looking great for this event, and even standing in line (which wasn't that long at around 11:00) wasn't that much of a hassle because of the guys on pogo sticks and b-boys who were giving a pretty good show. Plus it was really great hooking up with all my old friends from the TA board (you guys made the night a whole lot better :)
Now...to the music review. First off, I almost died when i heard the rumours that Dave Seamen wasn't going to play...but being the eternal optimist i decide to check out Kool Haus first to see with my own eyes if the bald one was going to hit the decks...and boy did he hit the decks...dropping some bad ass proggie tunes (none of which i can remember now)...unfortunately because i was with a few trance newbies and since i've seen Seamen spin a few times before i decide to leave his set early (something i was later to regret) and made my way down to the Guv at around 2:00...and what was i greeted with ? Yes, that's right...our man Mark Oliver dropping a powerful trance set which at one point included all my classic tunes.
Sander k - My Lexicon
Three Drives - Greece 2000
Binary Finary - 1998 (PVD Mix)
etc.
Ok, now i know these aren't the latest tunes, but it brought back the air of nostalgia to hear Mark O drop them...oh, and did i mention the man was beat matching like his life depended on it ? lol...anyway, i'm not the biggest fan of Mark, mainly cause he spins some really weird on his normal saturday nite stints (at least he used to when i was hitting up Guv a few months back), but it was great to see him adapt to Ferry's style and warm up the crowd.
I guess the only problem i had with Mark's set was that he dropped a lot of big tunes early on in the set, and although they sound great, it doesn't really leave much for later when Ferry dropped a couple of the same times (granted: different remixes)...i guess i'm more of a PVD fan and i admire a DJ who can hold back on the big tunes till the crowd is really itching for it...a few filler tracks aren't nessasarily a bad thing because then when the impact tunes come along the crowd really gets pumped...instead what i heard was anthem after anthem and i can relate to a couple of people who said that they got bored, because honestly towards the end of the night when ferry was dropping "Vimana - We Came" and then "Pulsar - Cloudwalking" I was totally spent...(this is probably the time i should have gone and checked out what the Bald One was up to ;)) but, alas i didn't...
Still, it was a good nite (not the best)...but a good nite to hear a lot of old tunes that I have not heard in a club. I can't say that I was impressed with Ferry, because a lot of the tunes that he dropped this time were the same one's that he played the last time he was here. Have to give it to the man though, he really loves his music and knows how to drive a crowd. I remember a point when i was up on the speaker with Bliss n Trance (you rule by the way :) and he dropped his track - Digital Punk...we both turn around and look up...and the man points to himself (proclaiming himself to be the punk i guess) and then looks back at us (well, in my 'euphoric state' i'll assume he was looking at me, though i'm probably wrong) and points to us...it was great. One of those moments where you know that a DJ really does have the power to move the dance floor when he gets involved. Still, my complaint with Ferry was that he was predictable and played a lot of tunes which are at least a year old...nothing wrong with that mind you, but that's the sort of thing i expected Mark to do...not Ferry...I would have been pleased if he had dropped newer stuff, but alas his thinking was probably geared towards giving the majority of the crowd what they had heard before.
Anyway to round it off, i'll say it was money well spent (you can't ask for more given the admission which was a paltry $15). Though, this is probably the last time i go to a Corsten night for some time to come...hopefully the next time he spins, his box will be full of new tunes.
PS. Thanks to all the TA's who hung out with me...i'm not going to name you guys because i know i'll miss someone out...but you know who you are...if i didn't thank you at the party, it's only because by the time i headed out i was almost dead on my feet...
Final plea....
BRING BACK PAUL VAN DYKE - AND DO IT ON A SATURDAY !!!! |

As I said before, Ferry's set was ok. But c'mon Ferry.. You don't come here twice a year to play the same stuff that any trance DJ who has been playing trance for a while already has.
I'm pretty sure Mark Oliver has 90% of that epic stuff that Ferry already has, and I'm 100% sure that Mark could play it just as well(if not better than Ferry) So basically Guv could've just called this event "History of Trance" or something along those lines, save lots of money, have same # of people and everybody would be just as happy.
It's cool when great DJ drops a few classics(or even if the whole set is classic if that's DJ first gig in the area), but I don't think it's cool that it's Ferry's 3rd time here and that he can get away with just playing classics. |

| ..too loud! I found that certain areas in the Guv the sound was all bass and you couldn't hear the melody properly. Based on Ferry Corsten's set, I would say that it would have been better if the high's were more audible and not purely driving bass. All in all a great party. Dave Seaman was awesome. Progressive house is really growing on me these days. The Kool Haus had a wicked vibe, especially since there was not too many people there. And the girls were spice! WOW:crazy: I saw a lot of hot girls that night. I love the way girls dance to progressive, it's so sexy! The array of visual effects that night was awesome too. I give the party 8.5/10. I regret not making an effort to meet more tranceaddicts, I guess I'm just shy:clown: |
