There are over 200 countries in the world. Some of them are more democratic than others. But there's more: social security, savety, standard of living or even climate.
What do you think is the best country in the world?
I think it would be Holland or Switzerland.
The Netherlands: strong economy, high standard of living, good welfare system, political freedom, low unemployment, drugs tolerated, rich culture and history, great youth culture. Disadvantages: high taxes, immigration problem, rainy sea climate.
Switzerland: low taxes, high standard of living, very secure and pieceful, low crime rates, diversity in climates, economic stability.
Disadvantages: high prices, army, language.

Can't imagine why you'd say Holland
Guess I'm going to have to say Australia :P
Why?
Strong economy, beautiful women, stable politics, no major enemies, friendly people, sunshine, world's best beaches... need i go on?
Problems?
Well we have problems integrating a multicultural society, the Aborigines are a problem as well (purely because of white treatment of them). The biggest problem is our spineless, gutless "leader" John Howard .. the man has no personality and would rather live in 1952 than 2002... |

What about Al-Quada (Bali)?
Although I believe internal security is still top in Australia. |

well its hard to say what I would feel the best country is cause i don't have too much experience living in other countries other than canada.
but I have been to almost every country in europe, and so I still have to say canada.
it really depends on what you get used to, but id have to say that canada australia and most euro countries are the best places to live, and there are many great places in the US to live also.
people from the above countries (and many others)will often fight to the death about what country is better, but id rather not. |

Well, i think it's really hard to determine the BEST country to live in... cause each country has it's advantages and disadvantages. So, like it has been done above, the best way is to list the advatages and disadv...
I can only speak for the countries i've lived in. Syria, and the US.
-Syria-
Advantages: Rich Culture and History (the cradle of civilizations), very hospitable people, GREAT food, one of safest places on earth, you might hear of crime maybe once a year. The night life (not limited only to clubs). Laid back.
Disadvantages: high unemployment. corrupt government (but improving, Slowly!), not much political freedom.
It's a shame tho, if it wasn't for the corrupt govenment and the dictator we had previously, things would have been soo different!
I'll stop braging about my country now. :D ...sorry.
-US-
Advantages: Nice people, Conveniance, Politcal freedom, low unemployment, strong economy, organized govenment.
Disadv: high crime rate ( you can't walk outside at 12:00am), people don't usually sleep late. Low food variaty. Huge consumption of resources.
This is just what i see, my description of the US isn't probably as accurate as an american would see it, so i'll leave to someone else. |

Nope, I'm not going to say Brazil (though I love my country). It's a huge place and every region is totally different from each other (It's a miracle we're all united). My city is in a region that is often compared to Belgium because of its wealth (believe me, I don't miss Europe at all here, except for the DJ's). However, some other places are way too poor. Even culture changes from place to place.
I live in a cosmopolitan city, full of foreigners and universities, and when I went to Maceio (a big poor city in Northeastern Brazil) I had a weird culture shock (I didn't know people used to eat using their own hands, for example).
Whatever happens in the world, happens here. Miserable people (usually black people, because of the problems we had in the past with slavery) go to the rich cities expecting to have a better life. However, they're segregated (yes, we do have racism here :() and then we have crime, unemployment and all this sad stuff (São Paulo and Rio are nice examples - good cities, but with several problems due to uncontroled immigration).
Therefore Brazil MAY be the best place to live in the world depending on the region you live. If I could take Southern Brazil apart (including the capital), I'd say it is the best place in the world to live. But we'd lost some places with very rich culture... and Amazon
Nevertheless, if I had to choose another country to live, I'll have another problem: xenophoby. JP, for example, says Netherlands is a good place to live, but I don't know whether I'd have a good life there being a foreigner. So I'll just stick here :D |

Holland has been a place where people from all over the world came to enjoy freedom. In the 16th/17th century French people ('Hugenoten') found their way to us because the Spanish King wanted them death.
Before WWII many jews from Poland and Germany left their country because of Hitler. They found a place here, although many of them ended in concentrationcamps.
These are just examples. There are over 100 nationalities in Amsterdam alone. In fact, there is a large Italian, Spanish, Argentine, Brasilian, Turkish, Maroccan and Surinam community.
Ronaldo and Romario only "survived" the cold climate because they could party in Amsterdam with other people from the Copa Cobana :)
Dutch are a trading people since 1300. We don't care about race as long as we can do some business. Funny enough, this is also reflected in out great involvement in international drug trafficing. |

Very good point. Aside from living in one's own country, he might not be happy living in a very good country when he's considered a foreigner. This applies to almost all countries. Foreigners will be looked at differently or looked at as 'foreigners'. |

Eventually, some foreigners can blend in over time... |
