Not that I really watch the Olympics at the best of times, but these ones lost all meaning the moment they failed to disqualify Russia. How can you take a medal tally seriously anymore?

That French gymnast Samir Ait Said who breaks his leg while performing :wtf:

The best Summer Olympic wine is made from Canadian sour grapes. :p
I'm not cutting Russia any slack because they took it to an all new level, but doping is so prevalent in all sports including the Olympics they should put an * next the athletes who don't.
I thought they should have life time ban for testing positive but if it's as prevalent as I think it is none of would go for it since they know they're just as dirty as the next nation.

You can still watch the Russialess sports, like football... Or root for athletes like Darya Klishina, who are squeaky clean according to foreign agencies:
All in all, we weren't pleased with that either, reason they were booed when they entered Maracană last night. A blanket ban would've been problematic, but a full pardon was just irresponsible :(
Sorry, Lira, but i still can't believe they chose Rio for this reason.

Well, womans beach volleyball was literally a flop tonight, thanks for nothing Brazil.

I understand. I wrote a little something about it in the random thread, but there's a very good reason they picked Rio over Tokyo or Chicago. Sure, Rio is not the safest of cities, but it's hosted plenty of international events in the past without major incidents (from Rio 92 to the World Cup), and the world was a lot different in 2007.
(ironically, Rio has become a lot safer in the last 9 years, even as the economy tanked)

Well, to be fair, the Olympics present a much more significant logistical challenge in terms of security due to more venues than the World Cup.
Safer or not, it us still one of the most dangerous places un the world.
I not on your country. I just think they bit off more than they could chew.

And I don't disagree with you for the most part, so I don't think you're being unreasonable or anything :)
It was clearly a case of us going big or going home, and then having to deal with a lot of damage control after nothing went according to plan. As I recall it, no other country has hosted both the World Cup and the Summer Olympics in such a short period of time, let alone a developing democracy (so people could voice their discontents and problems abounded), so we're now MacGyvering our way through all this.
And that's the most Brazilian thing we could've ever done :D

Obama sent the Guantanamo detainees to Uruguay. He stipulated he wanted free movement within South America. So he sent detainees with free travel privileges.
In other news, Sasha Obama is working as a waitress in a Martha's Vineyard Diner. Gross..

I'm just happy we won our first gold metal for shooting. :gsmile: I also forgot how much I enjoy watching beach volleyball. :disbelief

What a thriller in women cycling. The Dutch van Vleuten had the lead in a winning position in front of Abbott (USA) but fell badly downhill in about the last corner of the decent. Seeing the gold metal going up in smoke another Dutch van der Breggen with two others went in the pursuit of Abbott and managed to close the gap in the last 100 meters.
Our first medal Rio2016 is a gold one :)
Now we can be really happy knowing that van Vleuten is conscious as it looked bad, seeing her lying there in the ditch.
