This however is a thing of beauty: Japan did so damn well but that last leg is like watching a superhero compete against fleas
Seriously... d'at acceleration!
Oh, and we Bronzed again, thanks to US bungling. :gsmile:

I caught some of the Brazil - Germany game, including Neymar's winning penalty. Never seen a team cry their eyes out so much after winning a game.

Undoubtedly in part because of this absolute decimation just two years ago:

Probably in part, although their long-standing obsession with claiming the Olympic gold (their one missing international decoration) also plays a part. They took a very weak squad to the Copa America this summer because the emphasis was all on the home Olympics. The fact they persuaded Barcelona to release Neymar is testament to that. It's akin to bringing an assault rifle to a knife-fight.

They didn't televise the game here only replayed the penalty kicks (such a crappy way to decide a match). I'm happy for Lira/Brazil but how much satisfaction can you take from such water down affair? I get that they had their backs up against the wall, their national sport, hosting it, and after the wc shaming...

I actually told my dad about you before the match because Canada are the biggest bronze-grabbers in the Olympics. And right you were :D

Woohoo, we finally won!!! I cried, my wife cried, Ryan Lochte cried, it was the most Brazilian of tearjerkers!
There's what you said and some more - the 7x1 two years ago at home (which we laugh off, but don't want to see ever again), us never winning gold in the Olympics before (not in football, where it matters), playing in Maracanã (not that we remember the Maracanaço but, there's the aura), the country assuming men's football would amount to nothing this year and thinking the women's team was our only hope...
... Brazilians being Brazilian (we ARE that passionate), and the media (foreign and local alike) badmouthed us so freaking much with pointless scaremongering before the Olympics even started we needed a confidence boost, the feelgood factor and an uplifting denouement after hosting two major events under so much criticism. We've just one more Gold today in men's volleyball, just before the closing ceremony, our 20th medal. It's our best result ever, I've been told.
We. Regret. Nothing! :D
aeHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! HUE HUE HUE BR BR!
Lira
Ps.: Die Deutscher played a good game, Fleisch! Congrats to you too :)

19th I think, congrats, I told you you would get some more. Now equal to mini us, you closed the gap pretty much :)
I just noticed we have the same number of gold and silver as the last Winter Olypics, 8 and 7.
I felt a little sad for the Aussie BMX guys. Both were best qualifiers and both ended up with nothing. We silver.

Corrected I stand. I counted our volleyball medal twice :p

Well done, Britain.

Lira I wanted to congratulate you on a good Olympics. There was a lot a negative in the media leading up. Sure I was disappointed no one got Zika, turned green in the pool, robbed at gun point, or even kidnapped. If I was wearing a hat I'd take it off.
