I'm watching they play Argentina right now :)

I know our neighbours don't stand a chance, and I should have gone to bed an hour ago, but I I freaking love field hockey, and the Olympics is the only time I get to watch it :(

:) but Argentina is our Angstgegner, they won five times in important matches the last six years. Our girls were expecting a difficult match. Naomi van As said she aged 5 years at the end of the match.
But I guess it helps if you have an Argentina queen supporting you :)

Great day yesterday, two more unexpected gold, same number as London 2012 and we still have some good chances for more.

Brazil also got a great unexpected gold :)

Our Flying Dutchman unfortunately kissed the floor :(

Anyone know if that hot Aussie track star who became a sensation doing a warm up dance is still in the Olympics? Can't remember her name anyone?

Michelle Jenneke warming up in the rain

Oceania. Well, it's either Oceania or Michelle Jenneke, but that would be stupid name for a girl.

We'll see! (though you're probably right :p)

Yours has been one of the few teams I didn't get to see. They did come to Brasilia, but they played right before a lecture, so there's no way I could make it to the stadium and not be late :(

I'm surprised Sweden kicked our arse though. I watched two of their matches and they tied both times... And we beat them 5-1 just last week! They must've found out about açaí

Not to disrupt the calendar of national sporting events, I guess. The same happened in Sydney in 2000 (but not in Melbourne, because back in 1956 professional sports weren't nearly the way they are now). The Beijing games were also held in August, and London was late July, early August.

Besides, among all host cities in history, Rio is the closest to the equator, so seasons don't really matter that much here, and we have instead a rainy season (October-April) and a dry season (May-September)... And this has been a blessing in disguise. All the zika hysteria was meaningless because it's the dry season now, and the mosquitoes are not exactly fond of the weather during this time of the year :)
