Sorry, Brazilian spelling, Brazilian spelling :(
(Also, I'm sure I'll eventually do it again, so I already apologise in advance... It's by far the hardest city name in the English language for me after "Birmingham" :p) |

| LOL, what's tricky about Birmingham? |

I have to think twice before saying it every. Single. Time.
I was well into my twenties when I found out the first syllable isn't pronounced "Beer", and I was already in my thirties when I noticed it's not "Birming Ham" :D
So my reading voice still mispronounces it whenever I read it. Even Gloucester is easier for my brain. Darwin is a bit tricky when I'm reading (I say "Darvin"), but Birmingham just takes the cake :p |

"Ber-ming-ham" is how it is for "Australian me", but I've been there, so the locals are more like "ber-min-gum"
Sometimes, I think English only exists to vex linguists, but that's only since I've known you, so my sample size is small, statistically speaking :p
Stuff like Gloucester, though, I hear you. There's also Leicester, which I found fun, too. And Worcester, the land of sauce. |

That's only because the Brummie accent makes everything it touches sound as glum as possible. "Ber-ming-ham" is pretty much right, but the nature of the word makes it easy to only half-pronounce the last syllable. |

I was happy to see Kerri win. It was impressive that they were able to turn things around after losing the first set. It's hard to see someone who has played at such a high level on the downside of their career. Hope she retires going out on a high note instead of hanging on.
F*@#$ Lochte! What an embarrassment and a disgrace. Lies, flees the country and leaving his teammates to take the heat.
I didn't get to see Jenneke but I heard she bombed despite her amazing jazz hands. |

Whoever came up with these spellings was clearly trolling future linguists :p
Phew, I'm glad to know I'm not in the wrong when I say "Bermin-Ham" then :D

Oh, so that's why I thought it was the standard pronunciation :p |

By the way, did the Olympics change your opinion of Brazil, or has it been precisely what you had imagined? What's the coverage been like?
Just curious :p |

Well, I always figured Brazil to be one of the greenest countries in the world, what with the color of your flag and holding so much of the Amazon. Just never figured that love of green carried over into your swimming pools too. |

It didn't change my opinion, no real surprise's. But with 16 hours coverage daily over here you get enough information besides the games.
Also before the games started a lot of background information was given.
None of our open water swimmers or sailors complaint about the water quality, although it was presented as an issue before the games started. They said it was fine before winning the 4 gold ones. |

Haha, yeah, I saw them swim in it and I was like "Is that okay now?"
I hope it is :p |

When butt implants leak, does that turn swimming pools green?
Logical question. |
