On weekends I'm a dominatrix. All my money goes to researching a way to liquidize powders so I can inject more things into my veins. I'm immune to cobra venom

I feel like the past 14 months of trudging it out on my own here in Sac has taught me a few important lessons. I managed to get out here on my own, find a decent paying job on my own (no family connections) save up, have some fun without falling too deep into it (lessons learned from 09-10) and within a few more weeks I'll be getting an apt of my own here. No more rooms for rent and no more roommates. wasn't easy either, by the time I had enough money for an apt there wasn't any availability around the area within my budget, Sac has a housing crisis, I had to be put on several waiting lists and the one that finally approved my app I had been on their waiting list for over 7 months. But finally it happened. It may not be the same as being a homeowner, but I'm stoked to finally have my own space now. And it will all be paid for with my own money, no loans or help from the parents. But they did decide to buy me a small dining room table as a moving gift so I can eat my food comfortably. I know, I'm so spoiled.

Where is the lesson? Jesus Christ.

I think the lesson was how one can succeed in life if one balances fun and work and doesn't 'fall too deep into it,' but I'm not entirely sure what that last part means.

Life can kick you in the bollocks without warning, and the security you take for granted can vanish. Being able to support yourself and survive with no help makes you your own safety net. I walk past people begging for change every day who didn't have any net.

I can do that, sure, but my point is not whether I can, or you can, or we can. What I struggle with is "should i", "should we". And everyday that goes by I come closer to no. Until I will eventually be homeless. And that's ok. I know how to make a fire and I can kill a deer.

SYSTEM-J
There has never been a single period in human history where the vast majority of people didn't have to work hard to survive. That's the human condition. No social system will get rid of it. Sitting around refusing to do the work required to protect yourself financially because you "shouldn't have to" is like leaving your front door unlocked at night because people "shouldn't" steal from each other.
