Alternative to war? How bout something called peace?

The United States must change their imperialistic foreign policy. Stop invading countries to meet their own selfish needs. Spend less on their military and more on the well being of its own citizens ie job creation and an accessable health care system. And most importantly they must ask why there is so much American dissent in the world and look to solving the roots of those problems instead of deciding to destroy those problems with force.

Answer me these since you're so smart: Does Saddam pose a REAL threat to the USA? Does Iraq still have WMD? Is there a link to Iraq and fundamentalist terrorists? Who benefits the most economically from the war and the rebuilding effort?

The only one bitching and whining here seems to be you. Spending more time hurling insults than actually making use of you're grand education and custructing any arguement.

I dont think many people would argue about high school standards. Universities, on the other hand are VERY different from high schools here in Canada and the drop out rates in most programs are staggering. Most programs here are very difficult and very demanding.

I don't know what it is like in America but universities here in ontario claim most student's marks drop between 15% - 20% entering first year. It is a very different system and students generally find it very difficult to adjust.

Kane's Truth:

Kane, leader to our cause, voice of our Brothers, was murdered in cold blood at the hands of brutal GDI forces.

Though Kane is no longer with us, his vision lives in our commitment to our Nod Brethren.

The Brotherhood of Nod desires a world of peace, unity and eternal fraternity.

We have killed, and will kill again to defend our destiny. We believe the ends will justify the means.

THE SPIRIT HAND OF KANE OPENS TO ALL

The Global Defense Initiative must be recognized for what it is -- whore to the western world -- corporate slave to the elite wealth of nations.

We are the abandoned. We are the destitute. We are the angry.

We have risen up, and will rise up again to unite our global Brotherhood. We believe the lowest among us will inherit the planet.

^ Screw Nod, the GLA kicks ass.

And partyprincess: I hate to burst your bubble, but American high schools don't have higher standards than Canadian ones. Besides which, how could you possibly generalize like that? Every state and every province has a different public school system, so trying to compare entire countries is nothing short of utter stinking bull.

Maybe this is something you hadn't thought of with your American education, princess, but the reason Canadian universities have "lower" entrance standards is because it's harder to achieve "higher" status in Canadian schools. And let's not forget that many of the American universities are ten times the size of Canadian ones (except maybe for U of T) and thus have to raise their standards to keep the student population in check...

I could go on, but the sheer ignorance of this "sub-argument" prevents me from wasting too much effort.

I would say Canadian high schools are harder as i have done both systems and can comment on them. I did my grade 10 and half of my grade 11 year in a Canadian Catholic high school in Calgary, then i moved to Brazil were i went to a Private American school were i graduated. When i transferred to the american school my marks went up 5 to 10 percent based on the class. Also i met and have a lot of american friends from there, and the stories they tell about american public school is horrible, most of them had to transfer to private school due to the poor conditions. Also in grade 10 my father was almost transferred to the US and the company advised us (american oil company) that the public system is ok but it is better to go to private school if you expect the same standards as in Canada. Also a lot of American univeristies like Yale have a large international population intake so most international candidates are very smart so they drive up the averages.

what does all this school stuff have to do with the war again .. ??

Wurm
Sure I support the war....

I don't have to fight in it!

Some politicians in the US have floated around the idea of conscription, so that when they vote to go to war, they will actually have sons and daughters in the military, instead of poor kids who just joined up to earn some college money. I think we all know how well that idea works. Did G.W. or Bill Clinton have to go to Vietnam? People I know from Korea say that those with privilege can easily get around conscription, while the rest suffer.

It's also weird to see Americans rally in favour of the war. There's a huge (moral) difference between seeing war a a last resort after all else has failed, and being eager to pound Saddam "'cuz he's part of them that blew up the World Trade Center", a 'fact' that many believe, but has no basis in fact.

Many people say Alberta's high school system is far more difficult than Ontario's. I hear its very good too.
