Why do nice guys always finish last? (pg. 11)

PS, guys arent any better, but thats a seperate rant. |
Although I can't defend every abusive jerk, many of those guys started as nicer guys and just got hurt and corrupted.
The primary problem with the guys, I think, is that they simply put women on a pedestal and put up with too much . There are guys who won't even dump a girl after finding out she's been cheating on them. What the hell is that!?
So, by our own idiocy, we convince these same women that they don't have to try, that they can do anything they want and still get away with it, because they can always find some other walking penis who will do anything for sex.
In order to be successful in a relationship, guy or girl, you have to know how to be wrong and how to be right. When you're wrong, you have to have the guts to make a first move (because the other person is very likely pissed off) and still have the modesty to say sorry. When you're right, you have to have the resolve to stand up for yourself but, the compassion to not make the other person feel like about it. I think that 99% of the guys AND girls I know fail both of those tests. It's nearly impossible to make up with someone who won't forgive you for making a mistake and equally impossible to make up with someone who can't admit they were wrong.
That's another one of those things that people learn when they get older - because as those people get into more and more relationships, they meet people who treat them the same way they used to treat others, and realize just how ing stupid they were. If only it didn't take so long. |

Its also a huge playa culture where guys treat women like , and turn women into bitches, who in turn turn nice guys into playas. Its a giant cluster that isnt going to stop until it is unilaterally ended.
I dont think that Corporate and Media should be targeting 12-14 year old "tweens" the largest demographic in America, with images of sex and playa-ism. It takes about a decade for the people to un themselves, and by that time its too late. Too little family culture, too little education, and the inbred impatience and intolerance that have made it so people cant even sit through a 90 minute movie without squirming about how long it is. People who are used to 5 minute shows with 20 minute commercials, Fast cars, fast times, fast relationships.
You see magazines with ing headlines like "Your first marriage: The practice marriage. Learn how to make your second work!" (real).
People are such brainwashed morons that they cant think, cant learn, dont WANT to think or learn, because life is easy. 3 years later, they are on Prozac wondering why they are so ed up and miserable.
Basically people are morons, and will do whatever they are told. Im just disappointed they arent being told to Cherish and Respect eachother instead of, in the words of the song "Me so horny", leaving eachother "ed and deserted" |

Wizard's First Rule :D
And a big WERD to Diginut and Orbax's contributions. We really are going into a downward spiral, and the spiral is only feeding on itself. Except instead of hurting itself, it's getting bigger.
It's not just the media, I think parents have a large part in this picture too. Who buys the halter-tops and the short skirts and the 18+ video games for the tweens? Who's the party responsible for the child spending a majority of the day in front of the television? Who's allowing kids to visit websites they're not mentally ready to see yet? And I don't just mean porn.
Sure, the media has gotten to covering more and more stories unsuitable for youngsters. But that doesn't mean you have to allow your child to partake in those presentations. I think that the first step is one where parents universally agree that the media isn't the only party to blame. Let's stop shifting the blame away from ourselves and onto others, and start accepting some responsibility. Isn't that what being an adult is all about? |

finally someone said what i've been saying all these years but in a way that made sense!
and a half-related tangent about the degrading society...anyone else heard about like the ADD/ADHD epidemic?
my theory: people can't ing sit still or concentrate for 2 seconds...go watch a commercial or a cartoon. new shoot like everyone 1.8 seconds, CONSTANT new sounds going on, nothing's ever just sitting there
comedy still lies in timing, but lately the timing's been scaled down
it seems everything's moving faster lately
and as an attempt to put it back on topic: one of the things i wish other people could do that i do all the time is just understand that we're being forced to move too fast, and just take a day off and sit in the shade outside, read, and sip lemonade. call in sick and do it. and don't let yourself stress about what you're missing, just live another stressless life for a day
it can do wonders to just stop and look around once in a while |

Yeah man, so much for the days when you could just sit down, talk, maybe eat, and enjoy each other's company. I'm not necessarily even talking about romance, there's family too. Now we need to eat in front of the TV or computer, and we get bored of each other if there are no distractions... *sigh*
The problem is that society looks up to the "playa" instead of looking down on it, and the women who whine about them the most are often the ones that had it coming anyway. It's so rare to see a girl and guy together that I respect both members of - there might be 2 or 3 couples but that's about it. |

Ill just say this society has moved away from the traditional anglo-european code of ethics and honor, and leave it at that.
Yeah I always think back to Fahrenheit 451, the temperature at which books burn. I hated that obok at first, but then developments started getting built where houses didnt have porches, because no one ing talks to each other any more. Kids especially dont talk to parents and older folks. I used to go talk for 4-5 hours a couple times a week with my friend and his parents. We would all just sit in a circle of chairs and talk. Its amazing what you learn.
Another reason kids are ed up. They are reinventing the wheel every friggin day instead of just getting told how to do it. |

Well, old-fashioned romance is tied in very closely to family values, so that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
On a side note: amazing how some people can read general statements and take them personally as if it had anything to do with them. Is it an ego thing? |
