| Soundcard converts digital audio file to an analog signal or the other way around (to record). You need more than the built in sound card for music production. I have 8 inputs and 8 outputs so I can route different instruments within cubase/fruity loops to different channels of my mixer, or if I needed I could record to 8 seperate wav files at once, all 24 bit files rather than the standard 16 bit than normal soundcards deal with. |

| I know nothing about making my own music...but I use my sound card to record from external sources into MP3, for making silly sound effects, and for better sound for my games. |

yep.
but for playing, you must convert back to 16bit :P
btw, 24bit is better for mastering processes!!! markus told me this hehe.. :D |
