Smoking bylaw coming into effect?
View this Thread in Original format

After the wonderful Marco V session last night, i came home with my lungs filled with 3 hours of second hand smoke.

I personally hope this by law in clubs is comes to affect becuase its simply not fair that others have to be put at risk for the that is exhaled and then breathed in by us.

Does anyone know the status of this law...is it actually going to be implemented?

I can see your point.

Personally speaking, I party in Waterloo and we have a No Smoking bylaw in effect, so theres no smoking at ANY bar, club or restaurant here in Waterloo. Now, I must admit, i just ing LOVE coming home from the club and not recking of smoke... everything from ur hair to ur clothes smells (god, its the worst).. but that said, I dont actually mind the smoking in clubs... i guess ive just been around enough ppl that smoke when we're chillin' and drinking at house parties, so im used to it.... its a nice change for me to see ppl smoking in a club i guess.... i dunno

But i consider it very nice to come home and pass out after a hardnight of clubbing w/o smelling of smoke... I can totally see ur point, esp. if you're worried about the help sideaffects.... thats a legit concern for sure (and the most serious one too)

neways, i think TO still has maybe 2-3 years left ?? ( i dunno, i cant remember teh last time i remember hearing about this subject, but i *thought* that it was 2006.... not positive.... so dont quote me...

Dude, come party down here in the Loo @ the Purple Room in Rev if u want a smoke free night! =))

Yes, as of June. We already see one side-effect of this law - Gold Club is no more !a

Speaking of that, someone told me that the anti-tobacco sponsorship legislation is going to be thrown out by the Martin government.

Does anyone one know if this is just a rumour or fact??

As far as I know, Purple Room in Waterloo will be gone :( They are renovating it, and turning into a lounge..

I cant wait for this to happen. When I went to Ottawa it was the best, and I really enjoyed partying there.
This anti-smoking law will be good for me and many others who suffer from breathing problems.

I havent heard that, but I did hear yesterday that the Grand Prix for MTL was still on.
which is strange, because of all the tobacco advertising(it was dumaurier grand prix etc)

I hope it doesnt get tossed out, but scaling it back would be nice.
In Calgary, smoking is divided into 2 categories, 18+(can be smoking, or non smoking) and all ages(must be non smoking)
you declare yourself either of the two, and it stays as such.

I wish smoking it clubs was gone, or relegated to a patio or something. Somewhere that it wont hurt me(or clubbers in general)
I wonder if studies on inhaling smoke while performing somewhat athletic activites(ie dancing) have been done?

Yea I agree about getting this bylaw into effect. My lungs take a beating every time I hit clubs. And yea, it really does stick to all my clothes, hair, etc...

And the other good thing about such an anti-smoking in clubs law is that it would keep out all those jerks who come into clubs just to smoke and do nothing.... thus emptying out clubs just enough so that you can actually have space to dance!!!!

I saw on the news that the F1 was salvaged because the organizers are going to financially compensate the loss of teams that are primarily tobacco sponsored.

This no smoking bylaw shouldn't come as much of a surprise since it has already been around in many US and other Canadian cities for a while and it's also picking up a lot of stream over in Europe.

And that is the pivotal problem. Either save lungs or save culture...
