First of all ther r lots of vocals.
2nd of all i'd rather listen to beats than to lyrics like hiphop's .
thirdly, the music's uplifting, its original, n it's PURE music,, tats the beatiful part ... so what , ppl tell me ta t al tha time ... yes true it mite get monotone after awhile, which in my opinion it doesn't (for some, it mite).. the energy keeps u in still ..

well, the majority maybe a little over 50% is not vocal.

but explain to me, how its original and pure, and uplifting. i totally agree, but specific is better.

that was hard to read firsthand.

well it's the same between trance and hip hop. the hip hop you and i listen to are probably equivalent to the cheesy commercial dance music in edm. you probably haven't gotten to listen to the "quality" stuff. personally i don't listen to hip hop but i can stand it playing in the backgroun once a while

this kinda topic is a pretty interesting one. not a trance vs rap/hiphop/etc but why isn't trance popular debate.

look at it like this: its not popular. this means the production quality is quite high atm because there isnt any money to be made with cheese here.

supposing it was popular: wow suddenly you have a whole new group of people you can talk to trance about! but, it comes at a price; lame-asses will realize the moneymaking potential and exploit it.

the bottom line: music and buisiness do NOT belong together. I'm happy trance is 'underground', and a lot of people i show trance to think it's cool [even if they wouldn't listen to it much cuz it's not their thing]. and the ones who don't arent very musically stable, and it doesnt matter to them anyway.

Like R.J. I too have listened to Hip-Hop longer than I have electronice, and still I love Trance more than any other gengre out there or ever created.

To the topic at hand. The majority of the population of any land will naturally like the music their culture has made mainstream. It's almost as we are programmed to accept something before we are ever given the option of a selection from which to choose (ie: you follow whatever religion your parents happen to belong to).

And, generally, most people conform, because of social pressure to accept what is the norm and because of the basic human fear of the unknown , therefore the status quo lives on.

Yea I know what you mean.

Although I never accepted the religion that has been passed down my family... I am a proud, devoted ELYOTIST. BOO YEAH!!!!

And yea... my family doesn't listen to trance... but my Mom and my brother seem to like it now... even my grandma has taste for the ... and they all pretty much hate ty rap... I think it's just social pressure... and I also think that rap has levels of appeal beyond just the musical elements of the tracks (which was never the strong element of rap to begin with). Rap makes a statement... trance usually just taps into you emotionally and makes you go nuts. People like rap because they become attached to the associations it creates. U listen to a lot of rap with ur friends at parties, and soon your brain associates hiphop music with good times, love, and happiness. This explains society's resistance to changes in taste... the next group of people starts getting the same kind of associations and the tastes perpetuate. But if you go to a lot of trance events and associate trance with good times, then you will like trance. Trance IMO has stronger musical elements and in general, is more energetic, more emotional, and more fun to dance to, but it lacks the associations that hip-hop has created.

END RANT.

every genre has an appeal, and appeals to different people. at the end of the day people are different, and are entitled to their own opinions.
