my first first set i heard was oakenfold, was gatecrasher and the miami sets. Anyways, i have written probably over 10 replies to threads like these so i dont feel like writing it all out over again.

id like to see new talent coming to the top. Maybe Armin this next DJ mag poll, then someone else.

This thread bores me Charlie Murphy.

I think we can agree that people disagree... many points have been made. I think bottomline is that most people respect Oakey for what he has done and some still respect him for what he is doing (myself included).

oakeys the master at doing what he does and what he does I still enjoy
Orko
whats changed? cause oakie hasnt!!!

he is always pushing something that people are hesitant about getting into. he is always trying to find new talent, and bring it to the masses. he has always tried to do something new which interests him.

the guy works on movies, music, his record label, touring, and even video games(new james bond game about to come out).

he is more diverse than any dj out there. thats the way he has always been, and always will be(probably, dont actually know him).

the man plays what he likes, and what he thinks is fresh. notice how we say trance just isnt the same anymore? its cause its NOT FRESH.

From oakenfolds site: (questions from fans)
Question:How did you cause the trance explosion of ’99 and why did it fall down after you started playing more progressive stuff?

his Answer:I think you have answered your own question there.

oakey was already switching to prog when people were in the trance craze. he went to prog a bit...it went big. he has started other stuff now.

he will always be #1, he plays melodic music which is still beautiful, and he always maintains that he plays "melodic", not matter what form that may be in(trance, prog, breaks,hip-hop, drum n' bass)
sandstorm03
hasnt oaki always played prog? maby not always the same amount through his career, but it was always there before 98-99.

and imo hes not that melodic anymore, but thats juist my opinion.

i don't think so...listen to some older oakie sets...its mostly trance, house (in the really early ones), and goa psy stuff...
sandstorm03
imo its more prog house, but what ever. I dont really care to much, what was then is over, and long gone. The future is more important then the past.
smallSHEEP
The reason that Oakie was great was that he stuffed House, Breaks, Goa, Trance and Progressive into the same sets without sounding muddled or cheap.
sandstorm03
but imo most of his sets had less energy, then some of the more recent sets.

ummm HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO, isn't this wut i'm saying?!?!?!:o
he's been big in the early and late 90s and the new trancefanatics i mean starting from 2002-2003 think he's cuz they witnessed him after he started diversifying?!?!?!?!?!

duh?!

i also agree with FloorFiller, he used to blend alot of styles at that time, especially psy where it was big. and of course he played trance!!

Simcut
pure and simply, no.

its all gone to Oakey's head, his sets were amazing from *THAT* Essential Mix World tour, but he is cack now.
