Remember this man found salt'n'pepa and other groups then pushed ibiza then at the forefront of acid house then at the forefront of trance, goa trance then trance again (94-2000 he was legendary....that better than ferry and armin (who went lame after a year and tiesto who did a yr or two. None of them will ever touch Oakenfold's legacy or ever measure up to it. Hate oakenfold if you want but the man has done it all and he is one of the reasons that the scene is what it is today. This man pushed it when no one gave a about trance and he had the legendary 1997-2000, in which no deejay could touch him and because of that, he will remain a legend, no matter what he does in the future. Oakenfold was U2 tour deejay in 1993 as well, so the man was always pushing stuff on the masses and I'm certain that we have not heard the last of Paul Oakenfold and I'm sure he will probably go back to his greatness at one point. I expect old trance sets at clubs at some point, I'd pay anything to see that...Oakenfold playing the classics. I cannot stand Oakenfold's new style but it is always a king in my book. |

oakenfold has embraced the mainstream too much...i also think that you shouldnt be AS rude to somebody for stating their opinion. it's only an online forum. |

Tiesto is NOT the Oakenfold of today.... :rolleyes:
Tiesto is JUST starting to get back to his great sets that he USE to play...
Oakenfold as the subject tho..... I will admit that I got into Trance AFTER Oakies greatness, But I have listened to a good number of his classic sets and the EM sets.. and he was great... But so was the music..;) Personally I could care less if Oakie goes back to the top.. I don't really care who is the number one DJ.. Even tho I was disappointed when hearing Tiesto was number 1 this year..
All I care is that the DJ who is up on the decks when I am listening is spinning a set that makes me go nutz.. and this relies on the music that is available to be played... There is ALOT of crap trance out there nowadays, but there is still amazing stuff being produced that isn't getting whored... So as for Oakenfold being number one... Who cares.. he was great but he went onto other things..
If anyone wants my opinion of who I want as #1...
Ferry Corsten, J00F, or Marco V...

| Oakenfold has his rightful, accomplished place in history -- I do not see why that should be argued. But as for him being "on top" again, well... "comeback" is a dirty word and he still carries a fair amount of weight. I don't know what his plans are but I'd like to hear it from his own mouth :D |
