The real problem with racist thinking is that too often it disguises itself as fact, when it really is just opinion.
In fact, only one person has EVER been killed at Caribana. That was about 6 years ago.
I don't go to Caribana because it's not my scene. but it brings in hundreds of millions of dollars into the city, allows our black community to host an event that is truly world class, and positions Toronto as much more accepting than the cities that most of the attendees come from.
If ya don't like it, that's your prerogative. But don't like it for the congestion, traffic, noise and other legitimate reasons. |
OK then....I stand corrected I was 2 feet from where the dead person was shot 6 and not 5 years ago when I went to Caribana.
Oh and I went back 2 years later(for a friend) and saw a guy with a gun in his jacket....so are you saying that it's ok for an event to have people with total disregard for our laws. Come on, even I know you got this one wrong. I don't think it's about the black thing so stop making it that....yes there are a few that hate black and that's their perogative too (you can't force them to change if they don't want to) but some of us just don't feel comfortable with the gun bullies that show up at Caribana. And it's getting a little too dangerous now.....is it worth having an event that brings this into our City? IMO they need to get better organized and to keep these bad individuals away. Cuz every time they point a gun....it's just another power trip for them.
And for the record....I hate hip hop and urban. I don't hate the people who listen to it unless they make some nasty comment about my music preferences (and some have....both blacks and whites that are into the mainstream cheesy radio fed crap)
Actually I have more respect for R&B and break beat fans than I do for those that listen to todays mainstream hiphop/urban....cuz now a days all I hear is someone pulling the racist card in some way or another. And quite frankly the bling bling this is annoying. BUT I DON'T HATE THEM. JUST WHAT THEY STAND FOR.

The biggest crime ive ever seen are those HUGE HUGE woman who wear little tiny booty shorts and all their cellulite is hanging out. SOOOO GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! DO THEY NOT HAVE MIRRORS??? how can they think it looks sexy??? I was driving around on sat and saw sooo many, it was disgusting. (just so you know, its not just black chicks also, its black white, brown, whatever colour)
Whats also pure crap about it is the guys show no shame whatsoever when it comes to girls. They call out across the street, whistle, catcall at anything and EVERYTHING that walks by. We saw a pregnant girl, about 8 months prob with a stroller and what looked like it was prob her parents, and some guy was tryin to pick her up as he was driving by. No shame whatsoever. Are these guys not taught manners? do they really get girls like that?
Last year an interference was held on caribana weekend, and they had completely taken over yonge st with all their bling bling SUV'S and blocking the road, and the 320 bus couldnt get passed bloor. I had to walk the rest of the way to System. I was scared for my like, and I had every right to be. I couldnt go 1 block without some guy goin psst or yo baby, where you heading? wanna come back to the hotel? Im surprised I made it one piece :nervous:

To say that because you dont like caribana you are racist automatically is very naive and dangerous accusations. i have nothing against black people but i do have something against people who come to our city and cause trouble. Let caribana stay, as i said put it in a part of the city and let them do their thing. Ive said the same thing about clubs for years when people complain about clubgoers causing trouble (the anti white/asian/black/latin/muslim crowd) |

It's nice to see women who don't possess eating disorders. As a woman wouldn't you think that self confidence is a good thing?
I've been walkin around downtown all weekend and I've hardly had anyone holla at me. So is it just me or were u wearin the same skanky that you're complaining about? Guys don't holla at the chick in sweats you know. |

Ravers and whistlers aren't RACES. Caribana is a Carribean/Black festival. By complaining about it, and the people it brings, you're complaining about the race as a whole. You're basically putting all Caribana attendees under one label and segregating them from the rest of what you call "us". That's being RACIST. |

If a woman is overweight she should try wearing something that would make her look more attractive. Shirt miniscirts don't make fat women attractive. |

Who cares though? Let her be happy. Too many women are obsessed about their weight and feel ugly because they don't look anything like the people they see on tv. I know for a fact that there are many men out there who love voluptous women and will happily watch them display their assets. |
