You honestly think that if equality in the workplace was a reality, that women would give up on the sweeter parts of the deal? I highly doubt it.
In my opinion, something as general as "equality in the workforce" shouldn't be used as an argument here. I would agree with you if it were half a century ago when it would be completely unheard of for a woman to be making more than a man. But now, it is definately possible for a women to be earning more than a man. You just said yourself that the you've made more money than the past few boyfriends you've had. So if this is the case, please tell me why there is always an underlying expectation for the guy to pick up the tab when the bill comes? That's pretty much assuming that the guy makes more money than the girl. |

There is only an expectation because that is what every guy I've ever dated has been like. They don't have a problem picking up the tab, say, 60-75% of the time.
I have no idea if they'd get pissey paying all the time because I would never let them.
The reason I've made more than my previous boyfriends is, to put it bluntly, I have a better education and I'm more ambitious than they are!
However, study after study show that women working the same job as men, on average, take home about 70% of a man's paycheque. FOR THE SAME WORK.
I'd give up a few free dinners to be making equal money for equal work. It's absolutely infuriating to think that the chump at the next cubicle over is making 30% more than I am. In-in-furiating. |

Hard to say when that is something impossible to achieve. There will never be equality.

It's an evolutionary thing. It all boils down to finding a good reproductive mate. That is the "underlying" answer to the question.
And to just to further explain, I think that a guy should pay but I do agree with the whole song and dance of "No, no, I'll get the check this time," and reach for the purse, if a guy insists on paying tho, why should women argue more. A woman shouldn't just agree with it. It will make the man feel more useful if you do the little shpeel.
(btw, I take care of the finances in my relationship and therefore I pay for things since I have our collective money.) |

That's the way that inequality works. Of course I will get a better job than a lot of men and make more than them (with my education) but men that have the same job as me will make more than me. ing blows, I'm just as smart as them, s. |

well, right now, i'm not personally going through that because all grad students get paid the same, but i see it around the faculty at the university.
but comments from jayx1 bother me because there are people out there that think things are equal and they are not! |

It's a statistic. Just because on average women make 70% of what men do, doesn't mean you will.
I'm sure you'll be payed fairly Margs. I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for paying you 70% of what your equal male co worker is earning. :nervous: :toothless |
