u guys are talking like you're comparing peas to carrots!

the underlying currents are supposed to be reciprocal COURTESY (~ perhaps that's where the word 'courting' is actually derived from?) & RESPECT!

what does $$$$/ level of income have to do with this?!?!?! where is the plain and simple kindness, where nothing is expected and s/he does something nice ~ just because ... ?
i don't expect my X5 BWM (with a red carpet, red bow and rose petals, please!!!:p) to be standing outside my door just cos i invited him for dinner!

oh yea ... and B. T. W. and this can & should be applied both ways!
he'll get his lamborgini ......... when i make my 6 figures!
:tongue2

it's the little things (the thought and gestures) in life that count the most! (hehe) ;)

Silke, how does the underlying expectation for a man to pay for a women stem from courtesy anymore?

It did stem from courtesy when men understood that women made significantly less than they did, but now, it's just not the case anymore. It's no longer courtesy, but more taking advantage of an age old formality!

(When I say this, I am commenting on the first few dates between strangers. I completely agree with you that paying for someone you love and care for is not only courteous, but also fulfilling.)

that's what i'm saying, Graham ... it should not be an expectation.

who are these spoilt brats these days anyways? i wouldn't pay for if i was a guy if the little miss prissy shopping mall with fake boobs owns a BWM and is afraid of breaking a nail for opening her wallet! makes me sick. i understand guys' frustration ... b/c there are girls out there who ruin the best of guys and then we - the 'normal' girls get the spoilt goods - and i have to play the freaking mechanic!! dammit.

old values can only be re-awakened if treated with virtue from both sides!

That's what I'd like to know. I'm so lucky, almost every girl I used to meet was like this. And my friends wondered why I gave up?

I think I'm going to take a hiatus from the dating game until I'm about 25. :p

yeeaa *siiiigh* ... ur right, let your brain do the talking from time to time!

it's healthy and will save you loads of $$$! ;) :p

I don't like to split the bill. I pay sometimes, she pays sometimes, or I pay for lunch, then she pays for coffee or whatever

worrying about money too much (esp spent on people) is not healthy
people don't forget ;)

when two male friends go out or when two female friends go out, its always each man for himself.
why is it like that? coz you see each other as equals. looking at the way society works today men and women are "virtually" considered equal. but alas gender differences still exist.

facts of life:

chicks like to feel special
guys feel obligated to pay for date

i agree with durafei when he says that who ever asks for the date should pay, but 90% of the time its the dude that does the asking so that creates a problem. in that case the lady should at least offer to pay for one of the dates if she finds that she constantly being treated instead of just free loading off the poor dude.

once you are a "couple" then each time you go out each person should pay for themself or take turns in covering the bill.

My boyfriend pays for everything, and I mean everything!! He won't even let me pay for starbucks! Every dinner, movie, everything. I offer to pay, he won't let me at all. To be honest, its turning me into a monster.

To compensate for all the money he spends on me each week I buy him clothes, and things he wouldn't buy himself. I also do errands for him, and I always give him a back rub, like every night, lol. Or during dinner I say I am going to the washroom and really I find our server and pay.

I've never heard of a woman sleeping with a guy because he "stuck to his guns" and refused to pay for a date.
Well now you have :) Last girl i went out with. Second date. We're playing pool and i flat-out ask her when she's planning to buy us a round of drinks. She said there was no way in hell she would ever buy a guy a drink. I shrugged and continued playing. Five minutes later, she said fine and bought us a round of Bavaria. Two hours later, we were at my place.

Did she scrub the floors, do your laundry, press your shirts, and cook breakfast in the morning as well ?
