That's not quite the same now is it. If police are dealing with 10 nutjobs holding 30 hostages and accidentally shoot one of the hostages but catch all 10 of the criminals, would you freak out on the police?

(Well maybe you would, but it would be pretty inappropriate)

And that holds doubly true if said hostages are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, or worse, if they actually try to intervene and stop the police from capturing the criminals.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that all Palestinians are animals, but the ones starsearcher is talking about certainly are. And yes, I am aware that there were certain groups of ultra-orthodox Jews that were dancing in the streets when they heard that Arafat was dead, and for what it's worth, I consider those people to be a waste of human skin too.

Now now, no one is claiming that the site isn't biased, but bias alone does not make something untrue. If you think that any or all of the facts/arguments discussed therein are false, you should address them on an individual level instead of dismissing them all under the Bias Umbrella.

I actually dont have a problem with people celebrating Arafats death and being happy about it. I do have a problem if people hate him for trying to free palestine. Afterall.. i will also jump with glee when sharon dies. He is far worse than arafat. His name should be SharoFAT

The word "free" should be in quotations there... they were freer under Israeli governance than they ever were under say, Jordanian governance.

How come "great leaders" like Arafat never rose up to protest the Syrian occupation?

There is no such thing as "freer" You are either under occupation and rules or you are not.

The palesitinians have been under occuption for almost 40 years.

AHAHAH... are Lebanese people in the same situation as palesitnians are... ahahha....dont even try comparing the syrian occupation to ISraels. Lebanese people are partying it up in clubs and restuerants.

The second statement is completely true, but let's be clear on the reason it's true. The "Palestinians" have only existed for 40 years. "Palestinian" was a label assigned to a heterogeneous group of Arabs that were already under occupation. This particular group, however, has been under occupation for far more than 40 years - far more time than the state of Israel has even existed - and the Israeli "occupation" (I use the term loosely) is considerably LESS brutal and oppressive than the occupations that existed beforehand. I believe that is precisely the reason why there is so much violence - previous occupations scared the out of them so much that they didn't dare say a word.

You can't say that there isn't a conflict of interest here. Arafat brought the Palestinian cause to the attention of numerous Israeli leaders but at the same time showed them that they could not trust him or his people under any circumstances. Another leader could have brought the same issue to public attention but actually solved it, instead of making it worse. Israelis (and Palestinians) showed time and time again that they were willing to deal - it was only out of total exasperation with the peace process that they elected [the slightly nutty] Ariel Sharon.

Only time will tell what kind of leader will replace Arafat, but if he's dedicated to peace even 10% as much as Arafat was dedicated to war, we might actually see things in that area settle down within our own lifetimes. And then we can go visit and catch some quality Psytrance massives without worrying about getting shot or blown to bits.

LOL, that's exactly the point! Relative to Canadians! Doesn't the fact that this country votes Liberal almost every election show that it is a Liberal country? Doesn't the fact that some 80-90% of Canadians polling to vote for Kerry and only 40% of Americans voting for him show you in a heartbeat that Canada is a Leftist country?

Are you actually trying to say that Canadians do not lean left simply because there are other countries that are FARTHER left?

The political scale IS NOT relative, for the simple reason that we can identify an absolute left (Communism) and an absolute right (anarchy). Averaging out world opinion means nothing as the political scale itself isn't determined by a democracy - that would be like saying, if half the world thinks the sun is yellow, and half the world thinks the sun is blue, then the sun must obviously be green! Sometimes, there ARE absolutes, and you can try to blur that fact by calling it "relative", but rational people will see past such nonsense.

No, the political scale IS an absolute scale. Affirmative Action, welfare, "universal" health care, state-sponsored abortions, gay marriages, anti-trust suits, junk food bans and petroleum taxes ARE left wing. Income tax cuts, foreign isolationism, military spending cuts, abolishment of the Constitution and law enforcement, bible thumping and cultural assimilation ARE right wing. I'm not an anarchist. Take a look at Jayx1 - my political standpoint is quite a bit to the left of his. Simply because I am further to the right than someone else, even 80% of Canadians, does not make me "right wing" by an objective standard.

I do not believe in "relativism", I believe in this thing called "objectivism", look it up sometime.

You are so wrong. A party in Sweden that is right, would be left in the US, even the liberals here in canada would be somewhat right in Sweden and the conservative here in canada would probably be considered liberal in the US.

Besides, the left - righ scale is a bad one imo :thepirate
