What I don't understand is why are people complaining about Tiesto playing old tracks..
Everybody seems to love Tiesto of 99, but hate Tiesto of 2004. Yet when Tiesto plays tracks of 99, those same people who love Tiesto 99 are complaing... It just doesn't make any sense :conf: |
I'd never complain if he played 1999 style:) Damn even 2001 and style would easily do it for me : )))
I don't want to be ignorant, so I won't say anything bad about Tiesto. He did SO MUCH for the scene arround the world that he deserves the position he is in right now. But I predict that if he keeps his style all his old school fans will turn from him. And we are the back bone of his popularity, it will quite soon follow us:) |

euphorica: no i dont think were bickering at all, i think this "debate" is going rather well, no cussing, no flaming, nothing. im enjoying it :)
a DJ doesnt have to play unknown choons in order to be good, but heres the reality: they get slapped with the "mainstream DJ" label when they do. and hearing tracks from 1 year, to almost 5 years (airtight, eventho i love it) isnt exactly, uh, revolutionary. It *should* be pioneering.
I know i prolly sound like some hardcore music lover thats searching for totally enlightment, but thats because i see DJ'ing and music as hardcore as an art style as i do with my photography and graphic design. ive been listening to trance for 6 or 7 years nowz so its becoming hard to impress me.....maybe thats the reason why luke chable and the sorts are impressing me like hell.
as for ure first comment, i usually find it listening to my minidisc or stereo through headphones to trance, that way i hear ALL the music (the sound system doesnt output all the frequencies and the bass drowns out some stuff) but in terms of "energy" definately a club. |

if i were to get a CD signed by Tijs, it'd be Magik One. Not his commercial stuff. |
He signed my Magik 6 and Nyana last time at the Docks. He kinda gave me a weird look when I gave him Magik 6 to sign. Maybe he knows I'm a "true" fan.:p |

There are only two CD sets that i always come back to when theres no new trance to listen to.
1) Paul Oakenfold - Perfecto Presents Another World
2) DJ Tiesto - Magik 6 Live in Amsterdam
that magik, and i think of all the CDs Tiesto has ever released, imo, is by far the greatest thing hes ever put together. So many massive choons on that. OMTIJS!!!! |

It's true that I'm a Tiesto fan mostly because of his 98-2001 stuff. And I've struggled with that for the last year. Do I really like Tiesto these days with his new image and new "sound".? The answer is a so-so yes. Some of his stuff is good, some of it not. I kinda just rolled my eyes when everybody sang along to Love Comes Again. I hate that track, but each to their own.
So, while I still love Tiesto, I acknowledge that it's mostly for what he used to do, rather than what he does now. His live performances are great, but if you look at his tracklistings lately, it's pretty repetitive, and I don't really keep track of new stuff either. But it's parties like last night (or two nights ago now actually) that remind me exactly why I loved Tiesto and why I still do love him. I had a great time...end of story. Next time he's at the Docks, I'll be there.
Well, actually I hear that Kandaio is supposedly trying to get Tiesto to come to the Phoenix in London in February because they're "friends". Fat chance. Why would Tiesto waste his time in LONDON ONTARIO? |

What a night..... Got to the Docks at about 10pm with Tha_Broad, and Kurfew.... Trying to park was an adventure... We got into the front parking lot just in time, cause 2 more cars pulled in and they closed the lot.. We went to go in line and saw some people we knew so that cut our time down a bit... took about 20 mins till we got in...
Got handed a Rev as soon as i got in and slowly made our way to coat check.... the line wasn't too bad... still took a while to get our coats checked an all, but it was all good...
Met up with Az, Amb, an his friend Chris near the outside smoking doors.. Hung out for a bit... Then went galavanting round... Was outside having a smoke about 30 mins before Tiesto went on, went with a group of TOTA's to get a grand tour of the place with who i'm guessing was one of the managers.. gave us the low down on the final construction plans coming this summer.. Also got a chance to go up in the Dj booth.. Stayed on that side of the stage for the better portion of the night...
Tiesto came on at about 12:45, and man the night began there..... i have to say that he did not disapoint me at all... I had a wikkid time the last time he was at the Docks and I had a wikkid time this time round too... he ended up playin for about 7.5 hours.. which was so damn good.... at the end of the night he signed an tossed the headphones he was wearing, as well as a record....
What a night....
Shout out to all the Ta's i saw there.... i'd write yall out but ya's know who you are..
:tongue2 |

what type of headphones were they that he threw into the crowd that got distroyed? :( so sad. i really need a new pair of headphones, and if i was one of the ppl that got a hand on those, i woulda been so pissed if i missed the chance to retreive them, cause they went to garbage.
ps. about the early replies...why does everyone always have to be so underground??? whats the deal? why do some ppl never want to hear familiar music? i have such a great time when i hear familiar stuff, i like a blend with stuff i don't know to...but i have a much better time when i recognize at least a good 25% of the music the djs playing (i keep pretty up to date, because for many ppl, the recognize factor is usualyl even less then that.) i guess lots of you don't like mark oliver then? because he drops lots of old tunes, and i love that about him. i remember he dropped stuff like sholan - can you feel (thrillseekers remix) and neo and farina - binary refind a year after they came out, and i was like wholey this is in awesome! hearing stuff you like "that is good" is great no matter how old it is, i think the lot of you just try to be cool thinking you're so underground and everything is outdated. |

| Hey kamil, do you honestly think you are going to like every track Tiesto drops? There were a few tracks I didnt really enjoy because of persoanl taste, but I saw that other people in the crowd did, which was great. Stop being so negative about Traffic and the "breaks track", and start being positive about the many tracks that were packed into those 7 hours, like Voyage !! EEKK !! |
