But what I wanna know is, are there any stores (besides the Tiesto website and ebay) that sell Tiesto Merchandise? |

ok, so here is my question. why is it you guys think that tiesto's set was AMAZING? from what ive read it seems as though he played tracks that EVERYONE knew. was it the best becuase he played nothing but BIG ANTHEMS?
wouldn't you guys love to see tiesto in a smaller venue (more intimate) playing fresh underground music (that you are unaware of)? i think something like this would really allow him to be A LOT more creative than he is when he spins BIG EVENTS.
those are my thoughts...
GOODNIGHT
p.s. im glad that all of you enjoyed yourselves to the fullest! at the end of the day thats all that matters... |
Well i personally think its nice when you recon some of the tracks..
tiesto wont change his set much from week to week so if you have listened to something of his recently.. your bound to come across perhaps 90% of the same tracklisting |

Let me start by saying that I have been waiting for this show for nearly 2 full years. I started to really get hard into trance back then but ended up missing his shows previous around the area because of work and such. So this night, I was pumped beyond belief.
Originally Alex (Kandaio) was to setup an interview with Tiesto since he A: did one with him in Montreal earlier in the year and B: because he’s signed to Magik. In the end that didn’t work out because Tijs isn’t going to be doing any media press in North America, save for a ‘possible’ 30 minute spot in Miami. So, we ended up thinking we were in a panic because we hadn’t worried about tickets. But, not to worry; our favorite 'secret source' came through for us giving us both VIP passes for the event.
I had been listening to RJ’s 2hp.ca for about a day and a half straight up until the time I left pumping myself up and annoying the roommate and girlfriend up the wall in the process. Finally the time came. I got the message from Alex that we would be taking off around 5ish that night. So, I burned a couple Tiesto CD’s as well as grabbed my ‘Just Be’ and ‘Parade of the Athletes’ album, packed up a change of clothes and the rest, picked up Alex and our buddy Scott, and off to Toronto we went.
We arrived at Scott’s friends place by around 9pm (apparently by the time we actually left Alex’s, got gas, stopped for dinner, etc., we didn’t leave until like 7pm) promptly to find out that Scott’s buddy never actually got a ticket. So, we basically walked in, turned around, and walked back out again to drive down to The Docks to see about getting him a ticket.
When we turned that corner to see; ‘Tiesto – December 11th’ I just about lost it right there. I knew I had finally got there and it was only a few hours until I would be seeing the man himself for the first time. We quickly found a parking spot along the street and in dashed Scott and his buddy to see about tickets. That left Alex and I to stand in the freezing cold wondering what we were supposed to do. So we hopped inside that music van and quizzed the two guys inside on why they weren’t playing Tiesto and after a few minutes had ‘Parade of the Athletes’ and ‘Tiesto in Concert’ going in the van.
It was nearly 10:30-11pm when Alex and I finally decided that it was ‘go-time’ and we walked up to prove that we were on the list. There was a slight problem though…apparently even though you’re on the list and have VIP; you still have to wait in the same line as the people waiting to get tickets. Slight miscommunication on the part of the staff, but I guess that’s ok. We ended up talking our way around the line but it took an extra 15-20 minutes of waiting to do so. At this point I was getting slightly annoyed, but that’s just fine.
We got into the side room of the club and bam, there it was; my first look at The Docks. Looked great for a first look that’s for sure. Sean Miller was up in the booth doing a little bit to get the crowd going. We decided to check our coats. Bad idea. Very, bad idea. From insertion into the coat check line until exiting took us nearly 45 minutes. We didn’t get out of the line until about 11:45 fearing we were going to miss the start of Tiesto’s set. The line was absolute chaos. Horridly run; people pushing and shoving, no exit line once you got a coat in, etc. Just terrible. I was getting increasingly pissed at this point. I was starting to lose my excitement for the night at hand after all this waiting around. Quite ridiculous. Shame on The Docks event staff for this one.
But, we were in the club and there was no way short of being gunned down or stabbed right there in the club that I was actually going to miss Tiesto now. Armed with my camera (with extra batteries of course), my CD’s and marker, and at this point a grumpy face, we went into the main room to find a good spot. We went all the way to the far right front side to the left of the DJ booth and to my amazement there were a bunch of TA’s waiting there partying to Sean’s beats. I FINALLY met RJ after the long awaited introduction. Many more TA’s; I’m sorry, I am horrible with names. My energy level began to pick back up as I began to realize that the time to start the show was soon to happen.
Alex and I collected a spot right in front of the mid-stage to prepare ourselves. We noticed a group of people here from London right in front of us which was pretty cool. All of a sudden there screamed out this huge hiss sound and the light stage slowly lowered down to no less than 20 feet off of our heads. Then the rush from the dry-ice machine came raining down on us from the ceiling in a pillar of fog. Utterly amazing! Sean finished up to the absolute roar of the crowd and then it happened;
‘Toronto, are you ready? Please welcome, the number one DJ in the world… DJ TIESTO!’
He walked onto the stage, threw on the headphones, gave the crowd a quick acknowledgment and into ‘Way Out West – Killa’ he went. When the beat dropped the floor shook with the rock of the crowd. Chants of ‘TI-ES-TO’ ringing around the club overtop of the music was enough to send shivers down your spine. It was surreal. All of a sudden, not 20 rows in front of me went up a gigantic banner stating nothing else than; ‘TIESTO IS TRANCE’. Tijs leaned over laughing and pointing in agreement at the sign. It was clear that this night was to be none other than amazing.
We had to move though as the crowd was surging too much and it was starting to get a little to pushy at that stage so off we went back to the left of the DJ booth with the TA’s. We hung out there for quite a while dancing around and taking pictures of everyone (to be uploaded soon). We wanted to try and stay close to the entrance of the DJ booth to see if we could get up there since we were on Nettwerk’s list but weren’t sure if it could happen. Then I made a little breakthrough; Sean was walking upstairs and I grabbed his attention letting him know his set was awesome and asked if he could grab one of the guy's upstairs for us since we needed to talk to him. He did, and down he came. He came down and chatted for a bit and he noticed I had two Tiesto CD’s in hand, grabbed them from me and said he’d be right back. Well I just about hit the floor at that. No less than 2 minutes later he came back down and handed me two freshly signed CD’s by Tiesto himself. It was nice of him to sign the inlays and not just the plastic coverings too, all in his traditional silver pen.
Well that made my night for sure. It couldn’t get any better than that, or so I thought. I was so pumped at this point that I just started dancing like crazy and believe me it most likely wasn’t pretty because I sure can’t dance. That’s why I DJ, because I can’t dance but I love the music. But as I’m freaking out to the beat, who looks over the side of the booth right down at Alex and I? I threw up my arms in excitement showing him the CD’s he’d just signed and he gave me a nice thumbs-up and his huge smile in return. I was on quite the high.
There was nothing else to do at this point than dive back into the pack of people that was considered a crowd that night. We made ourselves right down to the middle again and onto the stage. I may sound a little crazy here, but since Alex and Tiesto know each other well and all, I’m pretty sure that for the next hour or so that we were on that podium he was glancing over in our direction every few seconds grinning in excitement knowing that people who he was partnered with were still freaking out to his music. Tiesto was truly having himself a wonderful night. It was amazing to see how much energy he was putting into his set. Pumping his fists, jumping around in pure Tiesto fashion, and playing straight to the crowd. He was an incredible sight to see. Then I had an almost disastrous turn of events. Up on the stage beside me was this ‘wigger’ type moron who was flailing his arms about jumping up and down completely off beat. All of a sudden *WHAM* he smoked my CD’s and all I see are my brand new autographed Tiesto CD’s flying through the air into the crowd. I literally dove after them saving them from the crushing feet of the crowd. It took all my effort not to go back and tackle that fool but instead I refrained and kept my temper to a minimal roar.
Back down to the left we went near the end of the night, having Tijs looking down on us every few minutes giving us the pumping fist or clapping motion. It was truly like we were playing to him and vice versa. I’ve never felt a more personal show. Even better was when RJ came running up to me to present me with the his newly signed ‘Parade of the Athletes’ and ‘Nyana’ vinyl. Not less than 2 minutes after than Tiesto looked down on us again and RJ and I held up our signed collection. Tiesto smiled and laughed in our direction once again giving us a thumbs-up. So incredible!
Unfortunately the show did have to end and because of the craziness at the entrance to the DJ booth, we did not end up getting back up there to talk with him. It was quite frustrating but nonetheless amazing. An amazing bit was after the show was finished there were about 100 people left over with Tijs in the booth. He began autographing and throwing out flyers to the crowd to keep them happy. He had to have thrown 50+ out. I managed to get myself one which was nice to add to the collection for the night. As we were heading off to get our coats I looked up at Tijs just as he was looking down on me. I gave him a thumbs-up and mouthed ‘Thank you, amazing!’ He nodded in agreement and waved me goodbye smiling all the while.
This had to have been the most amazing night of my life. Other than the annoying waits and the moron smacking my CD’s out my hand it was perfect.
