500 000 people in these pro-Syria demonstrations. Considering the fact that almost all of them were Shia, and there are about 1.2-1.4 million Shias in Lebanon, we're talking about over 1/3 of the Shias being mobilized in Lebanon for these demonstrations. 1 out of 3!!! Compare this to the largest anti-Syrian demonstration held a couple of days ago, that topped out at 70 000 people, and the Lebanese picture is much more murky, as predicted, than what superficially and originally meets the eye. |
