Point is your generalizing a bit there. When i said "Trance" i was referring to everything that comes under the genre. Which lets face it is allot. I myself am more into Hard Trance, Prog, and Phsy. I find commercial chart trance utterly irritating and some house so repetitive its not funny. But my point is that there are so many variations of this kind of music that it can cater for many different audiences. |

its also 90% of what melodic/wanna be epic trance is today...
over produced formulatic crap, seemingly only a handful of big djs still play that style consistantly to death...

| I couldn't agree more Trance definitely is not what it used to be in terms of originality. It actually makes me angry hearing the garbage that gets into the charts. The problem with this is that the only stuff that really gets into the charts is the totally cheesy euro crap. Some may say this is a good thing as it keep some sense of not being so mainstream, but then if all people hear is the cheesy crap in the charts how are they ever going to know that there’s another side to trance. Views will be formed and opportunity’s missed. It is getting harder and harder to find a truly quality track these days, but they do still exist and when you hear some of the early prog stuff from '96-97 get dropped in a club it all makes it worthwhile. Up until late 2003, in where dance music has become really confused and lost. That's where we are today. As said everyone’s going to have different views on what "Trance" is for them. I just thought id share mine. :) |

Lol, thats because it was comonnoly referred to as techno back in the early nineties. Trance was basically a style that broke away from techno, and people used get the 2 genres mixed back then because they sounded so alike. I think Jam & Spoon's 'Stella' was the first "recognised" trance track, even though there was so more before that.
Another reason it people may call it techno (these days) is this:
In europe people use the 'slang words'- DANCE MUSIC to reffer to the whole electronic music genre.
In America they mainly use the slang word 'Techno' to reffer to the whole electronic music genre.
Im not saying everyone uses it, its normally people that are new to the scene call it that. Its also the reason when you download so many Trance tracks from limewire, they come up as 'Techno' in the filename.
Before Sandstorm03 starts critising me, Im under the assumption that ye already know the reason why it was called techno, and not assuming ye didnt know why! :tongue3 |
