I like how people nowadays have to pretend they never liked the song in the first place.
Anyways, trance to me is a branch of the future of music. What's developing now, in trance, dnb, breaks, house, downtempo happy gabber, etc., will define how electronic instrumentation is used in the future, and considering the limitless potential of synthesis...well...

Trance to me is a state of being, physically and mentally. I am someone who loves different cultures and societies and Trance is a way for me to communicate my emotions to those whose languages I may not speak, after all music is a global language and noneso more than TRANCE. Wether you are from Germany, Japan, U.S.A, Turkey, Argentina, South Africa, etc. if you are a fan of Trance you appreciate the vocals, bass and emotions that eminate from this music. Trance will never die, it will evolve but never die.:cool:

| For me: trance is sitting home and while reading a book, studying or playing a game, just turn on the lovely sounds of some trance cd. I don't really like listening to single songs; I rather turn on a CD with that good old classic. A few days ago I was sitting in the living room playing poker with some friends while listening to In Search Of Sunrise 3, GU009 or my most recent buy Airdrawndagger (yeah bought 4 weeks ago, what a masterpiece!). Trance is for me more background music. I love compilations with various trance style, that's why I like mixed cds more than artist albums. Of course I love to go to parties too, you can find on DanceValley for sure (I was pretty mad I missed last year ;)) and once a year a party like one of the Armada Nights or Trance Energy. The newer trance is a bit different than the classic trance (more boom boom, bliep bliep ;)). It can bore me pretty much, but I like compilations like Universal Religion 2003 (my most wanted CD of the moment) and Parade Of The Athletes (already have it). And a CD like Bloom by G&D definitely will become one of my classics. |

There's so many different styles of dance music which can be classed as 'trance' its kinda hard to answer. The typical epic melodic style tho... hm. For me it's all about taking the concept of chord-changes in driving energetic dance music, and pushing it to the max using strung out breakdowns, intense buildups and powerful melodies. That would be the technical definition... but regardless of how formulaic and cliched it often ends up becoming, the feeling is still there, and I can swallow my pride and admit to being a sucker for it. Some of the time anyway... I find most (not all) of today's to be lacking that feeling, to be honest. There are still some gems lying around though :)
Having a whole set full of fullblown epic trance though can get too much sometimes, I prefer it when interspersed with more hypnotic & driving techy stuff. |
