7.30: The New Deal @ Wicker Park Festival
This show is going to be amazing... these guys were gone for a little bit, but now that they're back... One of the best live electronic bands I've ever seen, if you like STS9, Lotus, or Particle, you'll love the New Deal...
They're probably closer to Lotus than any of those other bands, if anyone wants to take a listen to them live, shoot a PM my way...
8.6 Junkie XL @ Vision
8.6 John Aquaviva @ Soundbar
Dude, John Aquaviva is so good I would consider heading back to Soundbar for him... and JXL puts on probably what I would consider to be one of the best shows out there, and when I say he puts on a show, the man puts on an unbelievable show...
Other than those though, Summer is looking a little bit sparse this year... That's in my opinion though, I know there have been some discrepencies lately over whether some of my statements are fact or opinion :D |

so which one is it gonna be? :p i'm definitely excited for JXL, as i've never seen him live, but absolutely love his productions. i'm with you though - there aren't a lot of shows i'm looking forward to this summer.
never heard of The New Deal... i may have to check them out. |

Depending on the set times, I would like it to be both, but if it comes down to it, and I have to choose...
Probably... hmmmm... Yeah... well... JXL... but I'd be second guessing myself the whole time... |

aquaviva is at smartbar, not sound bar
also - he'll spin an 8 hour set or longer and comes to smartbar every other month - i believe it's his only residency in the US |

Cool, thanks... thought it said Soundbar on the front page... Hope Smartbar is a bit nicer/cooler...
Looks like it will be 4 hours of JAV and 3-4 hours of JXL... that's going to be a hell of a night...
EDIT: NM, it does say Smartbar on the front page... I need to learn to read...
And can anyone tell me WTF is up with:
6.24: Pedro (from Napolean Dynamite DJ Set) @ Soundbar

AHHHH!!!! Now I get it!!! Thanks Myra! :D
Seriously though...
I just read a Houston Chronicle article that says the actor who plays Pedro in ND is trying to parlay his role into a DJ Career as DJ Pedro... spinning Hip Hop and "Dance" music...
Look out DJ Spin and Jumpin Perez... Pedro's gunnin' for the cheese room at Vision.... |

from the AM Only website about the New Deal:
http://www.amonly.com/artists/TheNewDeal/
The New Deal
The story continues to evolve with Canada’s the New Deal, as they celebrate the seismic collision of live, improvised jamming with the energy and flow of contemporary dance music. Since the band’s formation in 1999 – a self described “beautiful accident” – North American response has been exceptional. Audiences have embraced what is now called the “New Deal Sound”.
At the vanguard of a new progressive style, the New Deal has become a live touring phenomenon. They have appeared at Bonnaroo, Jazz Fest New Orleans, the Coachella Festival, Street Scene in San Diego, Berkfest and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival to name just a few. They have headlined over 400 shows in the past 4 years. The New Deal inspires audiences of all kinds, from packed dance clubs across North America, to spellbound receptions during opening tours with Herbie Hanor Page McConnel from Phish.
The New Deal’s second studio release complements their catalogue of 3 live releases. Their sophomore studio recording, entitled “Gone Gone Gone”, explores the nuances of tempo, melody and thematic repetition for which the band is so well known. And for the first time ever, the band has invited guest vocalists Feist and Martina Sorbara to add new texture to their musical offering.
Unique, unforgettable and completely original – the New Deal has captured the attention music audiences throughout North America. Their latest studio release will bring the band’s celebrated sound to an even larger audience.
The New Deal is Jamie Shields, Dan Kurtz, and Darren Shearer. |

WHOA! Deep Dish on Friday and then Blank & Jones at Vision for Vision’s last night on 7/2?!!
Sounds like I’m going to have to make a weekend out of this. Plus it’ll be 4th of July weekend!
Anyone else hitting up the Blank & Jones show? Saw them back in Feb. and LOVED it!!! They just have a unique sound to them. |

I saw him a few weeks ago here in Minneapolis. I beg you guys: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Once he makes it to his first mix it quickly becomes apparent that the dude is just riding his fame and trying to live out some far fetched dream.
The dude can't mix for . When I saw him he started out with some 80s retro but quickly moved into some hard ass hard house/ravey stuff. He would trainwreck his mix, dance around on stage, strike various unattractive poses, make out with a random girl in the front, then return to the decks to trainwreck. He must have made out with at least 3 random girls in the short amount of time I was able to stomach him. It was just disgusting to watch him, so I left. |
