How so? We come out of the clubs (outside where the shootings take place) in the morning when everyone else is either on their way to work or is already at work. :p |

We on TOTA have a pretty large community of people who claim to be politically active. This bull is putting in danger the thing that we all love.
What can we do to stop this from turning into something ugly? |
Mass protest baby! |

First we start a letter writing campaign.
If a motion comes up to force clubs to close at 2 in city hall we can go down to city hall and challenge council. You can actually be present to comment on motions before they vote. At least you can in the town where i live. Id imagine toronto is the same. |
I'd help getting a letter writing campaign started for sure. I've never started one, or been in one though, so I would need some pointers. :p
Some people probably think that this news article is probably nothing, but it is better to fight back before this thing gets too big. |

Might be a bit naive here but I don't think they can possibly touch the rave crowd, who are all floating and happy on E, versus the gangsta that happens in the hip hop clubs...besides...OUR parties go till 8 am...so there's no violence outside while everyone is "safe" inside...no? Besides, who the FACK has the energy to fight after a night of EDM?!?!?! LOL!!! |
politicians dont distinguish events based on type of music played. They arent that smart. They see that hip hop hole in the wall in the same light as they would guvernment or boa. Like i said they successfully equated venues such as spin cat, space and the underground in windsor with big clean safe events such as the parties at the better living centre. hey even succesfully conveyed that raves were "violent and deadly". I remember exactly what happened 6 years ago and what is happening here is like deja-vu only now in regards to ALL VENUES THAT ARE OPEN PAST 2. |

can't touch ? they already passed the Rave Protocol here about 4 years ago which is why u won't see a larger party outside the Guvernment anywhere in Toronto

Id monitor this closely for the next few days... if it seems to be continuing (such as more city hall debate) then we take action. If we start writing letters now it may actually have the opposite effect and bring this issue even further into the limelight. All im saying is this could get ugly especially if city hall is bored (which these days they pretty much are) and/or any more hip hop clubs get shot up in the next while. |

Exactly...and in places like BC you cant be open past 2. It killed the club scene there. In Detroit you cant dance after 2. Its an actual law. Politicians can get away with anything if you let them. THIS IS WHY WE DONT LET THEM.
This is why im against the government stepping in most of the time when it comes to our affairs such as smoking and pitbulls etc, BECAUSE AS YOU CAN SEE NOW, THIS LINE OF THINKING WILL EVENTUALLY AFFECT THE THINGS THAT YOU ALSO ENJOY. |

Some more info I dug up.
| quote: |
Incoming Toronto police Chief Bill Blair, who is to be sworn in this morning at police headquarters and went to the scene early Sunday morning, called the tragedy "really quite outrageous," and said police are working with nightclub operators and bars across the city "to assist them in improving the quality of their security."
If police find a club owner is unco-operative, police will work with bylaw enforcement and other agencies "to effectively close them down," he said.
While efforts have been focused in the downtown entertainment district — an "information" meeting is planned between police and club owners this Thursday at Metro Hall — more needs to be done to ensure safety in other parts of the city, said Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West).
