City councillor calling for closure of and crackdown on after hours clubs after last weekends' shootings. Just saw this on the news and am quite concerned!

A city councillor is calling for a crackdown on after hours clubs, following the weekend murder of an innocent mother of four...

“You're not necessarily hearing a big problem with respect to murders and shootings at 8:00 at night, 9:00 at night,” he argues. “You're hearing about it at 2:00 in the morning, 3:00 in the morning, 4:00 in the morning. Quite frankly that's when the scum comes out.

Matt
I guess we're scum now.

What I would like to know is where the hell these shooters are hiding their gun that the security isn't finding it on them during the search you're suppose to get at the doors.

You knew this was coming... this will be the media scare story for the next few months. Expect to see the same damage to clubs as you did to to raves.

This is why im against government intervention. BECAUSE IT NEVER STOPS

I was thinking the same thought.
We all get labelled as being scum now, just because people don't know how to go out and have a good time without violence...

it's not government intervention.... it's some city councillor giving the false impression that she will give a when she wakes up tomorrow.

The mall where Livvette Miller was gunned down has had problems for years, according to vocal York West councillor Giorgio Mammoliti.

“This is a horrible part of my community,” Mammoliti insists. “You just need to take a walk around this complex to find out why I want this whole complex shut down.”

The complex is at Islington and Finch, and houses the Prestige Palace, where Miller was fatally wounded. She was attending what was billed as a private birthday party. But councillor Mammoliti believes after hours events are a recipe for violence.

“You're not necessarily hearing a big problem with respect to murders and shootings at 8:00 at night, 9:00 at night,” he argues. “You're hearing about it at 2:00 in the morning, 3:00 in the morning, 4:00 in the morning. Quite frankly that's when the scum comes out.”

City Officials are currently in the process of looking into Prestige Palace to see if it’s a licensed restaurant, or a nightclub. They're also checking for a liquor license.

The Prestige Palace is on the ground floor of this complex. Another business of concern rests on the second floor --- a massage parlour.

“The city staff have found some illegal activity went on in the way of sex acts and we're concerned about that,” the councillor alleges.

Mammoliti says if Prestige Palace doesn't have the proper paperwork, he will shut it down. He's also looking at the permits for all the other tenants in that building.

I love it.. Modelling afterhours clubs on some hip hop hole in the wall in some god forsaken strip mall is exactly the same as when they tried to model raves based on the spin cat back in 1999. Its complete bull. If clubs are forced to shut at 2 you can kiss toronto's nightlife goodbye. Then all you will see on the streets at night are the scum because all the law abiding people will be partying in Montreal and people lie me will be out of a job.

THIS very subject (politicians shutting down raves) is what originally got me started into politics in the first place.

All it takes are a few stupid sound bites and the media takes off with the story. Before long you get the public whipped up and bills like the rave act are passed.

You will see... Just wait until Sandra puppatello Windsor west MPP weighs in on this like she did 6 years ago. You heard it here first.

We on TOTA have a pretty large community of people who claim to be politically active. This bull is putting in danger the thing that we all love.

What steps can we take to stop this from turning into something ugly?

First we start a letter writing campaign.

If a motion comes up to force clubs to close at 2 in city hall we can go down to city hall and challenge council. You can actually be present to comment on motions before they vote. At least you can in the town where i live. Id imagine toronto is the same.

Might be a bit naive here but I don't think they can possibly touch the rave crowd, who are all floating and happy on E, versus the gangsta that happens in the hip hop clubs...besides...OUR parties go till 8 am...so there's no violence outside while everyone is "safe" inside...no? Besides, who the FACK has the energy to fight after a night of EDM?!?!?! LOL!!!
