Here is something i dug up from the Halton Region website:
(Remember these ignorant comments are coming from those who make our laws)
Talk about scaring the out of naive suburbanites... |
Cool...thanks for posting that! I learned a few things myself...didn't know what PLUR meant but I know I totally believed in it from the first rave I went to...and also, I want to go to one of those "underground raves" sometime!
I haven't witnessed anything but based on a few threads in here I realized the the possibility for sexual assault is definitely there (guy masturbating in toilet, 2 naked guys)...and if you have people on E that don't have their friends taking care of them they could be pretty vulnerable :( |

too many guys doing these thinks... where are the girls? :whip:
I was at the Docks in the summer of 2002 and in the rightmost room, they had a small impromptu stage set up at lefthand side of it.
i walk into the room from outside where i was socializing, and theres a freakin HOTASS chick up on stage MASTERBATING, just fingering herself right by the edge.
i guess im strange, but freakin' thought it was n hot as hell... was lovin' every minute of that! the guys around her on the floor where cheering and going insane. LOL.
One of my most memorable Docks moments. THe party blew ass other than that... crap-hop music everywhere! :( so that girl really improved my night! :clown:

Perhaps it would make sense to contact councillors who might be sympathetic to our concerns and discuss the matter with them. I'm sure they'd be able to point us in the right direction to making sure that this does not get out of hand.
Suggestion:
Olivia Chow - http://www.toronto.ca/councillors/chow1.htm
Or, the councillor for the ward in which you reside:
http://app.toronto.ca/im/council/councillors.jsp
We all want Toronto to be a safe place, but not at the expense of what makes gives it its unique character. Bottom line is that each one of us need to air our concerns, lest our voices go unheard... |
Firstly a protest is not an effective solution! Rarely are they taken seriously. Even Martin Luther King's didn't work. He had to die in order for things to change.
Chris you have the right idea but I'll hold off for a while on this till I hear more of an uproar.
RobbyG I don't think you made your gesture in vain....and I hope that we can collaborate on ideas later, based on whether you did or did not get a reply.
Media Coverage
I also think it might be best to contact someone from the media like Toronto Star (It was Betsy Powell who wrote the TorStar article last weekend called "long nights loom for cops on clubland beat") and maybe setup time to meet with her and convince her through our group (note: we need to form a group with a name that represents us as mature contributing Toronto professionals. Something non-offensive and with no reference to raves or afterhour clubs) that she needs to address the real issues. We need someone big within the media to act as our voice b/c it's the media that manipulates...ahem influences the percieved notion of afterhours clubs being dangerous in Toronto.
We may also need some cooperation of our club owners too, in order to be taken seriously.
Revenue from Tourism to Protect
The fact of the matter is that tourism will be affected by this news and we'll need club owners names on our petition (and maybe one specifically to represent TAs vocally too) so that a counter article will be written from the perspective of revenue losses due to isolated crimes in a large city where the police claim has had crime drop over the past 5 years. A counter article to that of staff Sgt Chris Fernandes' perspective about Zero Tolerance will help.
It may also help focus and redirect on this one councillors (though warranted) concern so that clubs that have a perpensity or reputation for harbouring the wrong element (which is rarely ever found in the EDM environment) can be closed down without affecting our tourism revenue in EDM clubs.
IMHO I know that many of us TAs and TOTAs can help change this way of thinking, but we have to ask ourselves how committed are we truly. I know I'm willing to stick my neck out...to go through with contacting the right people. There are a lot of TOTAs that are already connected and we could certainly use our own company names and or networks to achieve what we want.
So I'll wait and expect to hear an msn from Jayx1 and anyone else to organize and begin the process needed to stop the closing down of afterhours clubs.
Sign me up scotty ;) |

Considering how many stoner/e-head threads we have going on here I would seriously advise AGAINST doing any kind of petition on TA...if anything you'll just make things worse by playing into their hands and their ideas that we're all druggies (well most of us are...) and that's where all the problems start of course...
Worse case scenario we can always call on hese guys: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...light=fare+hike :haha: :stongue: :haha: :stongue: |

That's why I proposed we start a separate group.... something to take the focus away from our original connection to TA's that support drugs etc. After all, I'm sure not all TOTAs or TAs in general profess to doing any kind of drugs... do we :p
I'd like to refer to this movement as "playing their own game" on the upside. Something that they can take seriously rather than dismiss it like they did at those that formed the Rave Rally a few years back. |

either way we're in disadvantage |

I'd disagree with you... I think we are at an advantage... most TAs I've met are very bright and we have a strong network of TA's from around the globe that bring their tourism dollars to Toronto. It will take some work but it can be done. We just have to want it strongly enuf. |

I'd love to see city council try and impose a law that will shut down
Guv or CZ at 2am, they know better than to try something like that since prolly half of the councillors are on the triads payroll |

Of course they're very bright, but it's still a very drug-related community...you lose all your power on this since it's still ilegal - any way you look at it they have an angle against you |

This begs a question, if they want to close afterhours, they wold have to start these events earlier, i'm sure those residents living around clubs would love it to start at say.....5 pm? Until 2 am? hmm than i suppose they would just have something else to dig their teeth into.
My personal idea to get our word out, is not letters, or e-mails. But gather up all the Tota's we can. Go to either city hall, or Nathan Phillip's Square. And show them what happens at afterhours clubs....hell throw a little set and dance. proudly showing the Tranceaddict banner. |

Not if a totally separate group is formed (disassociated from TA but collaborating with TA, HA and any other clubber site that has a vested interest in keeping our revenue in TO but also aims to keep the dance movement and entertainment alive here too)
It isn't that they are just trying to close down the club hours...but certain parties and govt. officials feel the need to address the concerns of taxpayers thru force or control and manipulation.
It's censorship. They are trying to control our right to have a dance movement in Toronto and a strong entertainment force for our tourists. |
