This begs a question, if they want to close afterhours, they wold have to start these events earlier, i'm sure those residents living around clubs would love it to start at say.....5 pm? Until 2 am? hmm than i suppose they would just have something else to dig their teeth into.

My personal idea to get our word out, is not letters, or e-mails. But gather up all the Tota's we can. Go to either city hall, or Nathan Phillip's Square. And show them what happens at afterhours clubs....hell throw a little set and dance. proudly showing the Tranceaddict banner.

It's been tried by bigger ones in the past and it didn't work. Unfortunately the activity of going to city hall will be percieved as a protest.
You have to think on thier level. Tie up their emails, mass mails, mass petitions... is the only way to get them to understand this. Collaborate with businesses and communities to print up letters that support keeping tourism dollars in Toronto by not closing down clubs...that's the only way they can understand.

so you'll get a few hundred signatures...that won't be enough to change anything. You won't be able to make a petition large enough to influence a vote basically. All that thinking about tourism is a very nice idea in theory...but in practice, how many tourists actually come to TO to go to an after hours clubs and let alone really care that much about our tourism revenue dollars.

edit

I'm not saying this shouldn't be tried - anything should be. But it's not enough on it's own...you need more than just petitions.

but in saying that, obviously the businesses that we can tie into it, in general have to do with clubbing and the scene itself, so it would be a very bias view. and it wouldn't help as much as it should.

When I wrote to Councilor Mammoliti, I brought up other issues that he stated in the media where he was so ignorant & un-informed....not just the after hours issue...This guy's track record when he opens his big mouth gets him deeper in the hole & I will keep my eye on this guy:whip:

I kinda disagree with Del on this...If alot of people write about this NOW & remind this guy that WE pay his salary & that he is ELECTED to office then he might think twice. One of the things a wrote to him about is that he should concentrate his efforts on lobbying the Provincial & Feds to get tougher sentences for people who use guns during a crime or in possesion of a gun.I reminded him that Chief Julian Fantino BEGGED the government to get tough.I also mentioned that this city is just starting to recover from SARS & that if he kills the after hours clubs then the tourism will once again take a hit...THere are proly other reasons but we got to keep these councilors on a tighter leash..

Ok, but look at it this way; Just like the councellors are not willing to distinguish the difference between EDM and Hip-Hop clubs, the signatures on a petition do not need to be those of "good EDM club"-goers. Even a post on that MeetMeInTO site would get a few hundred/a thousand digital signatures...(even though they would be from people that listen to questionable music :P)

yeah but meetmeinto is a joke...most of the people on that site are of the average age of 17-18, and many of them think of the after hours clubs exactly the same way the councillor does - scum. Most of these people are "gina bambina vaselina playboy bunni" rofl. Sure they like the music (most of them are still mostly hip-hop and top40 crowd) but i doubt they'll even care.

Either way comparing EDM vs Hip Hop clubs can also be a dangerous line to walk on - you might get blamed for discrimination for suggesting that hip hop = violence...you gotta be really careful when talking to the city ppl i think...you might get yourself into more trouble than what you originally started with
