Like i said, right now its best to let it lie. I havnt seen anything about it in the last couple of days.
It's called strategy. But don't worry, if this does look serious i will be taking action and it will be a lot more than a letter to some ignorant councillor.
But so far there seems to be a lot in favour for us. Real issues are actually being discussed especially with the up coming election. So politicians and media alike will be distracted with real issues and wont need to resort to sensationalist ploys.
I hate to be so media jaded but its so true. Society is so manipulated by media programming and it makes me sick. |

What I would like to know is where the hell these shooters are hiding their gun that the security isn't finding it on them during the search you're suppose to get at the doors. |
For the right price and a good relationship with the bouncer you can get anything into a club. |

You're kidding right? If you know the right person or grease the right bouncer you can get anything you want into any club. |

Figures the Toronto Star would be the ones to try and keep this story alive. They are the most sensationalist media outlet in the city. They are even worse than City TV.
| quote: | Editorial: Making clubs safer
The senseless killing of Livvette Moore has triggered an outpouring of anger seldom seen in Toronto, a city where homicides occur at a rate of more than one a week.
The recently widowed mother of four was caught in a crossfire and shot in the head when gunplay erupted last weekend at a North York nightclub. She had been coaxed to go out by well-meaning friends hoping to help her get over the loss of her husband last year to cancer. In the end, Moore was lost too.
Her young children have been left with just a memory of their parents. And society is left wondering how to avoid such tragedy in the future.
There is no easy answer. Toronto's thriving club and bar scene seems due for a crackdown. Perhaps too many licences have been issued, to too many unreliable operators.
Public safety might be enhanced by wider use of metal detectors to screen club patrons as they arrive. Perhaps much greater use of video surveillance cameras would provide increased protection for patrons.
Such steps should be encouraged. But should they be required by law?
There is a risk that heavy regulation might drive clubs and bars underground, out of the public eye, making them more hazardous than ever.
It might be worthwhile to fund a study of what works, and does not work, when it comes to imposing new rules and restrictions on bars and nightclubs.
The surest way to prevent another tragic shooting is a change in attitude on the part of young men with guns. But reversing the culture of guns, drugs and violent revenge that prevails on Toronto's mean streets is also the hardest solution to effect.
Police have been trying, and their new leader, Chief Bill Blair, promises to try even harder. His commitment to more community policing, and to boosting the public's trust and confidence, are a welcome step forward.
But more effort must be made to blunt the carnage on Toronto's streets and in its clubs.

They at least got part of it right....

But first of all this shooting occured at a private party at a banquet hall, not a club. This could have easily been a private house party. Second this shooting was the result of several people rushing the door. A metal detector would not have stopped this from happening. Third, the problem in this city is gangs with guns, most notably Jamaican gangs. And before anyone freaks out lets be real here, this is where the majority of the city's shooting comes from. Even members of Toronto's Jamaican community (which for the most part is a very decent and law abiding community like everyone else) will admit that Jamaican gangs are a huge problem when it comes to violent crime. Its no coincidence that Jamaica's high crime rate spills over to canada when you get a large influx of Jamaican immigrants. This is not an issue about race, it's an issue about certain elements of a culture who's reality needs to be faced.
The answer is to crack down on gangs, guns and try and work with the community to try and root out the bad apples. Punishing business owners is not the answer because shootings can happen anywhere at anytime.
I guess Yonge St merchants are responsible for the brazen daylight shootings across from HMV a few weeks ago? I didn't think so.... |
