all of those dj's...zabs, sasha, fancuili, desyn, nick & jody, lawler, steve porter...

they are all at the top of their games and they are playing such a huge variety of sound and tracks i think what they are doing is recapturing that feeling...

armin and co...well...yeah

thats what I mean too, Trance is not just pure trance anymore, its been devided to many other genres wich are still count as trance like, prog houase, prog trance, dark progresive house/trance, hardhouse, house, uplifting trance, progressive house and MANY more probably. im sure youll find top tunes if you are really into trance even nowadays. I could name ALOT but hey im sure most of you are much better than me in finding good tunes ;)

Im not here to argue that year 99/00 sucked, no they were awsome and great, but we need to undrestand that those years have gone and will never come back and look into the future. I have to admit Nothing's wrong with bringing up some old memories though. :)

peace

You talk about trance being divided but what does house have to do with this? Trance and House are different.

We understand that, but what your saying is that its bad and its good, make up your mind.

I've seen alot of threads like this in couple of past weeks, im just saying no need to talk about old years of trance/EDM again and again and again.

anyway im going to stop posting in this thread as it will lead to nowhere.

you talk about trance as if it is the genre that all these sub genres branched out from...which is a mistake.

and i actually agree with ishkur to some extent on what he is saying. i think as far as the majority of tunes go from that period of time there is a lot of weight given to them because of people just starting to get into the genre, but i still would have to argue at least from a personal standpoint that the progressive house that came out of that time was the best parts of EDM for me, until the new electro house genre started to revive what i consider a stale time period in 01-02...which even still you find lots of great tunes, but on the whole...dj's were not supporting and playing them, so they are more obscure.

im sure he did but...check out some of his older sets..maybe i'll hook you up with one of my favs..

i haven't seen him since wmc 05, but he rocked it there too....some of his sets today include too much 'electro house'...and i guess if thats your thing..he still rocks as a dj though, def the man..

well that's exactly it...that's my thing. i've never been a big fan of really deep tribal stuff. it usually has to be almost a very cross over tribal song for me to like it...but to each there own right? hehe :p

PLUR!!!

Haha, 12 pages and I don't think this has been mentioned once yet. :p

I got into the scene around '97-98 (at the tender age of 12) but 99 was definitely a highlight year. I believe that Matt Darey and DuMonde were my favorites back then.

Ishkur is right.

He is to a point. I doubt he hardly (if ever) listens to anything produced with the trance label these days, so for him to realize the quality drop in productions 99 and post, is useless.

Of course there's a difference between tracks from then and now, any common sense is gonna tell you that. Things change and evolve over time.

I think when Ishkur listened to trance or EDM in general, it really was limitless and less formulaic. The reason for this was already stated and its obvious. It was the exposure. EDM was brand spanking new. Producers/Artsits had no idea what other people were dishing out. Nothing was going to influence them to create something that they knew was working at the moment. They just made something from scratch that felt right and hoped others would enjoy it also.

A track wasn't built on someone thinking "OK, what is trance? High synths with melodies, this 4/4 kick with a snare after it. Let me follow this as a guide line." The climax wasn't always shown with a drumline..., what was a climax? The track could be banging throughout the entire thing. Tracks had elements from EVERYTHING. Genres didn't have a certain sound. POSSIBILITIES WERE ENDLESS. People fail to see that now.

Now you have charts, the internet, mp3s, even CD's that give you this luxury to listen to a certain track whenever you want. You'd be lucky if you heard the same track EVER again before the technology boom. Am I blaming technology? no, I love it. I love sitting at my computer listening to sets I enjoy and putting tracks in my playlist so I can whore them over and over. I love the fact that I know a certain DJ is going to play THIS sound or these specific tracks. I also love the idea that I'm gonna go to parties and hear new things, and never hear them again. It will be special for THAT party.

This is my generation though, this is what I've grown up on. All this to me is natural. Anyone from any different period in time is going to think different. Relate this to music.

Anyways, starting to ramble. I'm really bad at explaining things, and I'm in a hurry (going to party of course :p), but I hope SOMEONE has the slighest idea of what i'm trying to get too.

p.s. - I did love the sound of '99, my fav to be exact, but I also loved the sound of every other year. I love music so I don't decide what to listen to by the year or genre, it's just whatever appeals to me. Musical boundaries are endless.
