I just know there is someone out there who is going to bring an explosion again.

Heres my current gripe with todays stuff, for example

Markus schulz playing live. No one dancing apart from maybe 30-40 people (die hard fans and drugs kicking in too early). He played some of the most boring ing music ove ever heard. IN A CLUB.

Whenhe dropped starsign - taraus though the place went crazy. Theres a tune that has an energy about it thats fun and doesnt take itself too serious.

Maybe thats it. Maybe there is no fun anymore in trance per say. Maybe all those cheeky samples and cheeky riffs are gone to be replaced with more complex melodies.

Maybe dj's need to diversify at play across the board from house to techno.

Can u imagine oakey playing lizard now LOL

Too many ing genres and rules

It is amazing and what an atmosphere there was must have been there, anyone go? I only heard it live on radio but had pretty much the same effect :D

Jon Vesta (RIP) :( - very talented producer imo.

I had always been into dance since way back but I knew something magical was happening with the music from mid '98. Some excellent tunes from xtravaganza and hooj.

By the summer '99 there were so many tunes its was amazing they were played in every club, bar and radio station. There were possibly as many as 5 dance magazines and of course fast car, all with free CDs rammed with upfront tunes.

Judge Jules and dave pearce (seems strange now) I would say were very influential with dance anthems and jules's show fri and sat.

As cheesy as it got was synth & strings as someone mentioned (not that bad tho), vengaboys (good airscape mix tho), the launch, alice deejay - better off alone (signum mix still pwns ), atb - til i come

.... but it was '99 and nearly every DJ could have gotten away with playing these... because?...

Everyone seemed to be up for it and on the same vibe when you went out - '99 was a great summer. (Ibiza uncovered on sky one 2yrs previous have anything to do with this, shaping what 'our generation' (i was 19 then) expected - I wonder)

Oakies essenital tour(s) and possibly one of oakie's finest sets in june

Paul Oakenfold - Gatecrasher @ Lotherton Hall, Leeds, England

01. Planet Perfecto feat. Grace - "It's Not Over Yet '99 [Breeder's It is Now Remix]"
02. Space Manoeuvres - "Stage One [Tilt's Apollo 11 Mix]"
03. AMbassador - "The Fade [Fade Mix]"
04. Mara - "One [Hamel's Implant Remix]"
05. Space Brothers - "Forgiven [Origin Mix]"
06. Mauro Picotto - "Lizard"
07. Jon Vesta - "Gull"
08. Tekknova - "Last Trip To Paradise"
09. Art of Trance - "Madagascar [Ferry Corsten Remix]"
10. Push - "Universal Nation [Ferry Corsten Remix]"
11. Olmec Heads - "Spritualized [Astral Mix]"
12. Space Brothers - "Heaven Will Come [Olmec Heads Vocal Dub]"
13. CJ Bolland - "The Prophet"

wow :eyes:

Final note(s):

music was't produced for asot
people didn't collect every track heard on asot from p2p.
armin really was't that big a name in DJing.
ferry played something other than his own material (don't blame him now tho)
judge jules and oakenfold were on form (not sure i can say that about pearcy)
everyone wanted to be a DJ
most tunes had either a pvd, lange, dary, ferry or dumonde remix
ministry of sound and nukleuz were credible labels
majority of vocals had meaning (chakra / s bros etc) / were minmal
vocals were not cheesy or should i say there were less songs with cheesy vocals.
nearly every tune (major labels neo, nukleuz, xtrav, perfecto, am:pm) released was guarenteed a chart position, it was not uncommon for the charts to be domonated with dance music.

... think ive said enough of how i remember it.

TUNE!

:happy2:

i ing totally agree with all that your saying mate, so there aint much i can add
i never forget listening to jules on the weekends, it was just a religion for me, still have some of the recorded cassettes!

trance now is far to polished for my tastes, there is some good stuff about but you gota look hard for it

btw
John Vesta - Gull
Tekknova - Last Trip To Paradise

you will never ever find 2 tracks that go so well together as these

I agree bring it back so its acceptable to play pretty much anything and add a bit of variety, dunno its a real shame with all these internet radio shows that they all sound very similar (10 latest tracks as played on gdj or asot).

Although I will say the prog scene is doing nicely where it seems cool to play prog trance, trance (a bit), prog house, prog breaks. Most of the DJs seem to pick unique tunes and a varied mix.
