OKAY!!! Give me some info.
Ahahaha I just came back from helping my cousin with her math homework!!! |
a Panopticon is a figurative example dreamed up by english philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 1787. Picture a perfectly circular prison. Now all of the cells open to the outside of the circle so that no one can see the other due to the curve. in the very centre of the circle of cells is a surveillance center with one way glass looking into the narrow end of the cells. (the outside end is obviously wider due to the nature of a circle). No inmate can see the security unit employees but they know that at any point in time they can be seen by them but the security themselves can never be known or seen. Thus, the idea is that this is a perfect example of how to mold behavior because the inmates will feel as though they can not get away with anything.
The catch is that obviously the gaurd can not be watching all the cells at every moment, but the inmates have no way of knowing when he is watching and when he isn't and therefore theoretically behave themselves.
How useful is a Panopticon as a metaphor for describing the reconstitution of power and control as a consequence of the information technology revolution? |

And he sais it's over, thread closed. |
you made two mistakes...
1) if the planets surface is only water then there can be no island with a shack. you contradicted yourself.
2)no imaginary man, in an imaginary shack, on an imaginary planet, in your mind, will ever dictate when this thread closes. ;)
There are only three potential people who can deem this thread closed, and they have instructions not let any of you know when they are going to do it. ;) |

It's in theory, and theory doesn't hold in practice. If there is only one guard watching and two bad events happening at teh same time, then at least one of the prisoners won't be punished hence breaking the rule of equality. That being broken, because everyone will think that they won't be trated the same will try their luck as they can.
Theres that, and of course there's the fact that philosophy is much easier to think about when drunk. I think therefore I am not drunk.
But for your sake drink, and drink alot. |

Oh but all three are under the old man's mind control. When he decides the thread closes, they will close it to abide by his bidding. |

One of those nights when the cute neighbour falls through the ceiling with her full of bubbles bathtub on your living room's table.
I miss those. |
