500,000 people protest immigration bill in Los Angeles (pg. 2)

Dont know much about the current immigration laws, but what seems apparent is that the US has had its chance (over the last few decades) to prevent this issue from ever becoming one.

The main reason for such an influx of Mexican immigrants into the US is generally for economic reasons, true? Wage differentials and what not. Now, why is it that on one side of the Rio Grande we see the wealth of the richest country in the world, while only meters away people are living in straw huts.

Just another example of US policy that extends no further than its borders, even though they end up screwing themselves in the long run. Perhaps some investment in Mexico could be a viable long term solution to illegal immigration problems.

Besides, what are you yanks whinging about?? the US has made a mint on cheap labour from Mexico..

a complete decades long failure to enforce and protect the border = an 11 million person unfunded liability.

...but lets let 500,000 misspent youths tell us not to do anything about it:rolleyes:

about the politics though...have you noticed that the usual loudmouth subjects on left are keeping their collective mouths shut about this.

Immigrants = willing to work for pay
US workers = not willing to work for pay

Why would Americans work for low wages when they can make more going on welfare. Reform welfare and watch how those jobs are taken by Americans.

There should be some serious rules when one goes on welfare. That would end most of the low wage nonsense.

ok first off i totally agree that MOST people on welfare do not deserve to be on it and sit on government's neck all their lives.

second of all, the low wages thing, eh it's complicated. because i do NOT believe that most jobs that illegals hold americans wouldn't do. alot of jobs that these people have people would do. construction being of them as well as stock and others. however employers often do not give those jobs to citizens and legal residents because they can hire someone who works for HALF the minimum wage. so in a way you can say it's the employers own greed. this could also be further proved by looking at all the outsourcing to other countries. GREED! because they make money regardless but i guess you need 100 billion instead of 20 billion  :whip:

Your right, hey have a right to live and such, basic human rights..but that aplies for any country in this world.

Actually it doesn't, there are many countries in the world where people are denied even the "basic human rights".

Given the fact that "rights" are nothing more than abstract priviliges given to people from those in authority, saying that any country in this world gives "illegals" the right to live is absurd. Try sneaking into China, Burma, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, North Korea etc. and see how much they respect your "right" to live.

A reform of welfare would indeed kick some good-for-nothing Americans in the rear to work. And hopefully they'd take the jobs the immigrants are taking.

Seems like everyone today has a serious case of entitlement.

No Mr. American, you are not entitled to your SUV. No Mr. American you are not entitled to welfare. No Mr. American you can't dump your garbage where you please. These are not rights, these are privilages.

You are not entitled to anything but the basic right to live and "persue hapiness." But hapiness does not mean GLUTTENY AND EXCESS.

If this country revamped welfare, it would have to revamp immigration laws at the same time, and sadly, I think, kick out a lot of illegals.

It's a bad situation!

Many congressmen would be reluctant to rehash/eliminate welfare because of the risk of losing votes and jobs

Even though I cannot spell, I agree with you on the greed n such. But what if the jobs, like in construction, are not paying too low but what if the standard of living in the United States is too out of wack to support itself on its own wages?
