Yeah, that really pisses me off. One of my friends has been in the U.S. for 2 years ( from Central America ) and speaks near perfect english ( compared with barely any 2 years ago )and is taking advanced level english classes, and speaks better than any black person in my neighborhood. Another friend that has only been in the country a few years works as a customer rep for a major credit card company
because of his fluency in English & Spanish. Most other latino friends / aquaintences I know speak very god english & several of them run businesses & employ people, so they're giving people jobs instead of taking them. In fact Latino owned businesses in Maryland are growing at a rate far faster than that of any other ethnic group. |

I would suspect that terrorist have already entered through the Mexican border. The same scumbag coyotes that stuff desperate Mexicans who paid them all their money to live a better life into the back of semitrucks and let them suffocate to death, probably also wouldn't think twice about accepting money to help smuggle al Queda into the U.S.
Personally I think there should be new laws regarding coyotes & cross border drug smugglers of coke, crystal & heroin. Their crimes should qualify as Felony Treason and be punishable by life in jail, or death.
As for Rush Limbaugh, I wouldn't respect his opinion even when on occasion he is right. He is more interested in spouting populist for his right wing fanatic followers than helping propose real solutions that help America. If Rush Limbaugh knows so ing much, he should run for president, instead of popping pills & talking on the radio. Your definately not the only one that doesn't like Rush Limbaugh. |

Several of my work clients are latino and also are millionares. One of my friends is originally from Guatemala and lives in a $1.2 million house. I also know a family from Chile that owns a construction company, many rental units & a church, and they're from Chile. I really dont know about average income but there are alot of wealthy latinos. Go to parts of Arlington, Virginia & a few DC maryland suburbs and you will find that almost every business is latino owned. Alot of restaurants where I live are latino owned, and I would rather eat in them than at Taco Bell any day. Also having lived in Langley Park, MD for 1 1/2 years ( almost entirely latino ) the crime there was less than it was hyped up, the area is extremely densly populated. In my entire time there no one ed with me, not even once. While the occasional MS 13 gang fight etc. always gets alot of news press, one thing the news never reports is that most people there are very polite and friendly, even to the only Canadian born East European in probably the entire town. In fact, most of the people in my apartment building were very quiet except for the occasional loud Spanish Music. Whenever I was home during the day, the parking lot was very empty, and the building was silent because most people there work. While I no longer live there, I own an apartment in the 3rd wealthiest county in the U.S. ( and it is not even close to being mostly Caucasian ), based on my experience I would much rather live in a latino neighborhood than in a black neighborhood, or a neighborhood full of white trash. |

I believe that if some one wants to immigrate to the U.S. or Canada, that they need to have completed high school, learn English & possess a skill that is useful or in short supply. We need to attract the smarter immigrants ( an example would be a doctor from India, a political refugee church pastor from Cuba ), and not loosers who prey on society ( gangs whose names I would rather not mention ). |

What does communism have to do with this thread. If you want to bring up communism, it is your Right Wing President that is provoking latino countries such as Venezuela, Peru & Bolivia into electing far left wing populist dictator presidents. As a result of that, those economies will go nowhere, and then we will have more illegal immigrants.

The US isn't doing anything about it because we know illegal immigrants keep many of our markets in check.
I don't mind them one bit. They will work DAMN hard for minimum wage, unlike many blacks who won't work at all and collect welfare.
I think it should be easier to become a US resident, maybe we'd collect more taxes from the illegals. |

I don't get it, illigals don't speak Spanish? This must be news to me. And why are you trying to consider them Spanish? They are Mexican, not Spanish. Lepanto, are you English? You must be since your country speaks english, and I guess everyone else must be too, eh?. Why do you keep considering Latin American countries Spanish? Why are you so stupid? Lets look at Buenos Aires. The number of German and Italian names outnumber Spanish names. I guess they are the least Spanish of all. Wait, Argentina is distinct from Spain, that's right. That's why they are Argentineans, not Spaniards.

well that'd be nice, but i don't think that's always realistic. people don't always come from other countries that have sound education and that's not their fault. i do agree that english needs to be learned. and perhaps a highschool GED equivalency learned or something would be ideal. |

Recently I heard that locally Resident & Citizen latinos lead African Americans in almost every economic indicator, really no suprise to me because most latinos I'm friends with or work with are very hard working, and deserve any success they have. A recent high school scores analysis in Alexandria, Virginia showed that not only latinos ( despite that many had language barriers ) but even African Immigrants performed better than African Americans in the public school system. Also the recent political interest showed by a large part of the latino community shows that much of the latino population is now showing interest in the political process of this country, which would mean that 2nd & 3rd generation latinos will likely be as successful as the offspring of earlier immigrants from other countries such as Italy, Ireland & Poland ( and just as many people bitched just as much about them coming over back in the day.
I think the protests are good as long as they remain peaceful. That is what America is & has always been about. As in almost every protest of almost every kind, there is always a lunitic fringe that distracts from the overall message & embarrasses the majority of the participants, and unfortunately the news usually goes after the lunatics & not the majority of normal people in attendance. |
