It's genuine.
I get the impression that unless at least half the tracks are total unknowns, never even been played anywhere or heard by a soul, people will moan that they've heard it all before.
My track has only been played once, ever, on my own guestmix on TATW and there's probably people out there who'd call Arisen overplayed!, simply because they ripped the show stream and have listened to that many times themselves. But they only have themselves to blame.
You have no idea how frustrating this is for us producers and the dj's too. Sometimes you HAVE to test the water to see how people react to tracks, but in doing so open the p2p floodgates, then when tracks get licensed onto compilations, everyone complains its overplayed, i wonder why...
Doesn't matter if the tracks 6 months old, 3 months, a month!, people feel the need to call a track old and overplayed. Pointless.
This isn't A State of Total Unknowns, this is A State Of Trance 2006, a compilation of good tracks from the past 12 month odd, no doubt beautiful mixed together in a very musical way. But I guess we'll only really know that when its released.

I like how every one of your replies has nothing to back it up in any of your reviews when you don't like something. Not looking to start a flame war here, but it bothers the hell out of me that I frequently see you run around posting useless reviews e.g. "0/10 it sucks" without saying anything about what might be wrong with a track. Just thought I'd point out that it's a lot more useful for people (including the artists) if you actually give some sort of support for what's wrong with the track. |

besides, i think 'your loving arms' is massive.
and i can't see the point of tracks burning in hell :) |

Predictable and pretty bland tracklist tbh. I thought there would be a lot more in the way of new material. But Armin's ASOT compilations are about making money these days i suppose |
Its funny to see, how quick people think a track is "old" ...Most tracks on these CD's are still unreleased for the mass. |

Starbucks analogy? I must have missed that, care to re-iterate? :p |
From the ASOT Yearmix 2005 thread:

Think of it this way; If you're a connoisseur of fine coffee, Starbucks just isn't going to cut it for you, you want something with it's own unique flavor and effect. ASOT and Armin are the Starbucks of EDM, particularly Trance music, and this is their holiday gift pack sampler that has a little of everything in it, but no real substance what so ever.

PS: It KILLS me that Jody Wisternoff - "Cold Drink, Hot Girl" is on this album... yet another track Armin has no business playing... |

It only supports the argument that all Armin does these days is pander to the largest number of people who will give him money.
I can't wait to read how "artfully mixed" this compilation is and how "emotional" the "beautiful" programming makes all the ASOT fanboys. |

Or maybe he is just a people's dj and will cater to what the masses want to listen to. What is the problem with that? If a specific dj is getting people on the dancefloor to dance or buy their albums then is what they are doing... wrong? You may not agree with it because you are more interested with the "underground" side of the genre. Which I can understand. But why not just open up to it all and enjoy the best of both worlds? I don't think he is in it for the money or the fame. He just know's what will sell. I mean, this is his profession after all. :) |

This might be the best post you've ever made. (Not sarcasticly, I genuinely see your point) :)
I just think that perhaps that kind of mentality leads to a general decline in the overall quality of music in the scene, as the "masses" generally aren't the best measure of quality (see: U.S. Pop Music).
PS: It wasn't all that long ago that I was playing this kind of stuff as well, it has it's appeal. |

And honestly, you will never see me argue against this point. I feel the same exact way but I can't really disagree with a dj playing the music if more then half of the crowd is going to enjoy it. Trust me, when I go see Armin or Ferry or any other dj live, I know when I am hearing a fluff filler to cater to those who haven't a clue to quality EDM but when you see how everyone reacts to it you kinda have to understand why he is playing it.
What gets me and what drives me to post the way I do is when someone will post "Armin sucks." and thats just the very end of it. It just boggles my mind how anyone could think that while this guy is packing a club from wall to wall and sells thousands upon thousands of albums. |
