Tiesto has always been a class above Armin in mix comps. That's a fact.

I think that's the most baseless statement I've heard. Ok perhaps not the most baseless, but I think it's quite ridiculous. First off, there wouldn't be half as much exposure to the music as there is now. You might say "Oh well that's a good thing, it was much better when it was underground" etc etc. but you can't really know that anything in specific "killed trance" (though personally I completely disagree with the statement of trance being dead). What you remember of trance might be vague in what's made today, but to say a genre is dead is outright ridiculous, and to blame it on something that gains exposure is silly.

I don't care if you think that ASOT today sucks, or that it's always sucked (it hasn't, I think most on here will argue that, even if they don't enjoy the ASOT episodes today). And forget ASOT, what about J00F's radio show for example? The fans of the music wouldn't be exposed to the newer releases half as often and the tracks that deserve recognition may very well be passed by too easily. That's not to say that everything that's played on radio is great, because that would be bull. But to say that internet radio is the source of the problem? You're not going anywhere quickly with that statement.

I agree with some of the things said here and there about why the quality of trance has decreased... I think another big factor is that nowadays, anyone with a computer and some production tools & programs can produce... Whereas back in the day, you needed a production studio and other things. The use of the studio and equipment obviously costed some good $$$$, so producers would obviously put in some great time and devotion into making some solid and consistent productions. If their tracks bomb they won't make as much cash as they would expect. That is why I think people tend to see the trance music of earlier years as higher quality compared to the current productions. For many of them, producing was THEIR job. They had to give their heart and soul into it. In today's world, producing does not have to be a primary job for most. It's something they can do on the side whenever they please.

Today, it isn't that much big of hassle when it comes to producing trance. You can produce something on your computer and if it doesn't become a hit and flops.. so what? No big deal. It's not much of a loss to the producer at all. He/she can try another cookie-cutter production another day. The new technology available is a good, and a bad thing. It opens up the doors to more producers, but along with that comes a reduction in the quality of tunes coming out.

With all that aside now, I'm not very excited about this CD. but as always I will give DJs like tiesto and AvB an open mind when listening to their latest stuff since I was an avid fan of them a few years back.

are you kidding?
listen to armins 001 A State of Trance from 2000 and 002 Basic Instinct and why not 004 Transparance. Two outstanding mix comps that can give any Tiesto compilation competition.
Besides, Armin is a much better technical dj.

Trance music used to be made for the club atmosphere in a set situation. Im a strong believer that because of the heighten popularity of internet radio shows over the last 4 years that songs are created now to please the internet radio shows and not the club atmosphere. This creates productions being produced that are not created to strengthen a set but to be individual strong mp3 sellers and hit radio show songs. Granted I still listen to radio shows myself but I try not to oversaturate too much.

Ehmm, bcz you created the thread? :) No but seriously, I just haven't seen it been confirmed anywhere reliable (like armins homepage). That's why I wondered.

Sorry, it is a matter of opinion, but I completely disagree with this. I completely disagree with the idea of a track being 'made' for a certain purpose. Sure some producers do that, or edit their tracks to be suitable for a club or a radioshow or whatever, but the majority don't make their tracks FOR something. I think you're completely off the mark with this idea of making tracks for radio shows. Quality may have decreased overall in tracks made, but I hardly think this is to blame.
