But the underlying truth is that his argument is flawed - Just because people don't mind hearing something out at a club that they randomly get hyped for doesn't mean they like it - They may not even know what it is.

I shudder to think how many people in a club on any given night really have no idea what they're even listening to.

The fact of the matter is that it isn't just the TA's we're talking about here, we're talking about people who listen to dance music like it's their job. Realistically, those of us who buy records and spend the money on productions are the people who keep the scene alive, period. We're also the ones who are going to be the most critical because this is what we're in it for; The music. And let me tell you, this track has been almost unanimously canned as on almost every forum I've read, and by almost every person I know who's heard it.

I can understand wanting to support guys who you all are really big fans of, however I think it's doing them a disservice when you try and make excuses for why a track just isn't really that good.
iammesol
I'm not making excuses at all. I'm saying I have lower standards, because if every track had to be as quality as early years trance (which was "nearly unanimously" called the best years) then pretty soon if you can't make a superfamous track, you never make it in the music business. Not to mention that some of those superfamous tracks will get bashed because they are too popular.

But that's not the argument here.

Very few of the people posting in this thread are "living in the past" as you would seem to suggest. In fact, I've listened to little to no trance in the last year+.

I'm comparing this track to other tracks of similar styles that have been released in recent months. In my mind, there's no comparison, there have been some (note: not necessarily "many") very quality tracks released in the realms of tech-house, techno, "MNML" (Sidebar: God I hate the term "minimal" at this point...), and progressive in recent months. In my opinion, this is not one of them.

Agreed but you just eliminated pretty much the majority of these forums.

I was talking about quality, not genres. I'm also talking about the stupid l33tist attitude, not just this track. I've said it close to ten times in this thread I don't like this track. If you want me to open up another topic about it then fine, but you know for a fact that that topic will be crapped on by the regulars here who don't care with stuff like "repost" and "penus."

That was my point, the quality IS still there, it's just not as easy to find.

It's neither stupid nor "l33tist" to have an opinion based on a broad observation of a wide range of music and experience.

For the most part, I think the arguments against this track have been pretty well made by a few of the posters in this thread, and conversely, an argument for it seems to rely entirely on complaining that either:

A. Everyone is just having a "l33t" attitude

or

B. This tune kills a dancefloor.

Neither of which I see any real substance behind - So now I pose a question to you: Do you really think the quote en quote "l337ists" are the ones to blame here, or the unabashed "fanboys" who's arguments amount to little more than fluff?

Just becuase one thinks his musical tastes are more 'sophisiticated' than someone elses does not mean their opinion carries more weight, it's infact exactly just that, their opinion.

What I see all the time are these so called elitists pushing their opinions on others and in turn insulting the musical tastes of others.

People get too worked up in the 'technical' details, the people who are behind the track, the simplicity or complexity of the track and other bull forgetting that it's 'dance music' so enjoy it for what it is.

Not every track has to be a trend maker, a ground breaker, the next moonlight sonata, the next big thing, so stop scrutinizing every track your hear to your idealistic views. By you I am not refering to you specifically but speaking generally.

I apologize if it comes off as me "pushing" my views on you, but I'm not telling you what to think, nor has anyone else.

My initial post was certainly a more abrasive tone than I would usually take when reviewing a tune, but to be honest with you, in my opinion, the track was so very bad that it warranted a thread born out of my shear astonishment that these two could actually put something like this out.

Not at all, I wasn't offended or otherwise by any of your comments, I was merely talking about what I generally tend to see in these forums. I have a pretty open mind in terms of music and I can appreciate the music on a somewhat different perspective being a producer myself. My vies are my own, no one can influence what I like or dislike but myself. My comments were also not aimed at you specifically.

It's a common trend to bash producers when they try something out of the norm, whether its simplistic or complex. Tiesto got his share of bashing, Ferry got his sharing of bashing, but people don't understand that as an artist you are always trying to improve yourself, to grow. Growth means trying out different things, walking down different paths but most people are too rigid to appreciate this. They see Ferry is not making uplifting trance like he used to so automatically he's a sell out or sucks. Things like that will never change.

Yeah I agree with that...you always read on this forum that people are tired of generic tracks and paint by numbers trance, which is fine...but then you see the same people say that they wish Ferry would go back to his old stuff..:D, rather than trying something new. IMO Ferry has his own unique sound, he did before as well, but you can tell a Ferry track a mile off now.

Regarding this track though, does anyone have a higher quality sample?
The track to me sounds like a joke, from the sample on juno it sounds like it was made in 5 minutes. I have to ask, who on earth would pay for a vinyl with this on it?
If you are thinking about it, don't bother, send me a PM and Ill knock something up in FL in 5 minutes that sounds similar :D
