Armin ended with Silence and I was close to tears...I totally feel the AvB love tonight but I still think yesterday was slightly better. I cannot believe people wanted another track after that...I personally couldn't handle another because of the emotional rollercoaster he put us through. Perfect place to end...also someone told me they saw Armin slightly crying at the end and that is why Armin turned away from the crowd at the end...
|
yeah VERY VERY emotional, madd hugs...i hope he realizes how much love this city has for him...n i HOPE he insists on playing here AGAIN!!!~
hmm didnt read this whole thing yet...but did ANYONE shoot a video of SILENCE please PM me...OMG I would die to have the video of that moment!!!~ omg and armin was SOO emotional toward the end too...embracing, crying...WOWWW...someone PLEASE say yes -- i remember that no one shot footage during the time when Armin was in Crobar during August 2004 when all us NYTAS were singing along to ATRC (ahha waaay back eh?)...what a moment that was...what a SHAME it wasn't captured...:whip:

I mean the tracks he threw down were good but they lacked flow. and from around 7:30 - 9:00 the set just didn't seem to go anywhere. Why is every DJ who spins in NY feels they have to bring their "tech/house/prog" game to the show? I mean I liked some sweedish house mafia tracks he threw down, some of the harder stuff like "control freak" and few others but overall I was somehow expecting more. I guess I was spoiled by ASOTs that I've been listening to. Especially ASOT 250 (I was secretly hoping to get similar energy, flow, and consistency throughout).
LInes everywhere - beer, bathrooms, you name it. Had to walk 5 blocks just to avoid wating 1 hour in line to take a leak, place was crawling with bouncers, security, park police, nypd police, undercover narcs, etc. Felt like I was in a prison yard rather than at the party.
Though my hat's off to Armin for keeping the crowd moving most of the time. Poor Armin also did not look very good but he did a good job being a great host and wonderful performer (as he always is). I just wish he spent little more time playing trance and not tech/house/prog. It was not awful but wasn't perfect either. Somehow his sets outside of NYC tend to be slightly less... dark.
Left around 9:30, completely beat and somewhat disapointed.
Highlight of the night:
- Rapture
- control freak
- "you found yourself" (can't remember title)
- beautiful (f.corsten)
- PvD's choon (can't remember the name)
Few others I can't remember. I was hoping for Selu Vibra - Divine, Communication pt. 3, few other classics but sadly they were skipped.
BTW, anyone else thinks the beer was just GAWD ING AWFUL? All 4 varieties were friggin bitter and no other alchoholic beverages (unless you count cheap wine) were available - which SUCKED!
The view and location was terrific though, wish more parties were held there.
Overall experience for the night was 6/10
glad everyone else had a good time, though. |
Here, everyone annoyed with him can flame me instead. -
The music was alright, but never again. I bought PvD @ Central Park tickets and Christina and I are debating on whether to dump them. I'm so ing sick and tired of every outdoor Made Event feeling like a chore. Here's an idea, buy one less rent a cop and get some goddamn port-a-johns. And keep all the ones that you do rent inside the venue, as opposed to outside if you're going to make everyone go through security again, forcing us through another 15 minute line. Maybe I just have the world's smallest bladder, but I had 4 beers tonight over 6 hours and every trip to drain them out of me was a hassle. Also, can't you pay for drinks and get them in the same line?
I couldn't have selected a better track to end with than "Yet Another Day" because I was screaming along "I don't like this place at all, makes me wonder what I'm here for, someone take this pain away, dying to see another day." The venue had such great potential, just like Central Park has, but by mis-managing, Made somehow screws it up. It's really sad, because I think they do a good job with indoor events.
After tonight, I wish I liked x, because at least then I wouldn't be forced to deal with this .
I really tried to force myself to dance and have a good time, but it just wasn't going to happen. I'm sure that if this event were held indoors, like PvD @ Roseland or something, I'd have had a lot better time. It's nice to have open air, but I was so physically uncomfortable and annoyed with security bumping into me, it wasn't worth it just for the air.
BTW, Armin did more Jesus poses than Oakey tonight. At least the lighting was superb after it got dark. Definitely the most redeeming aspect of the night.
Musically and lightwise, i'd have given this a 7 or 8/10, but instead, it gets a 5/10. By far not the best party I've attended this year. |

I've never seen Armin (although it sounds like it would have been worth the drive from IN to NY to see this one) but he did throw his headphones out in the crowd at the end of the Rotterdam 2005 DVD. |

The venue. The setting. The crowd. and of course, Armin...
I gotta say, i haven't felt that liberated in a looong time. I don't know if Summerstage will quite ever be the same after this. I loved that dirrty, tribal issh he played the last hour? was it?

Yeah, I worked until about 8 on Friday, though, and I had just taken off Wednesday because we went to visit my parents over the holiday. If it hadn't started so early, it would have been more of an option. We heard from the people who showed up to Love afterwards that it was fairly empty. I still didn't even think it was that packed last night, though. BTW, beer garden where you can't even see the stage sucked, too. It seemed like they were trying rule out drinking as a tolerable option and wanted everyone to be on pills. |

+1 yeah Ryan -- less people, so security weren't being dicks...Saturday had MUCH MORE security and troopers...when i was taking a breather outside i kept seeing more and more uniformed troopers come into the venue like around 8pm...i guess with a crowd of that magnitude they just wanted to be sure...but yeah that doesn't excuse their actions.
and Friday WAS awesome...i was sober for most of the night and i was having a *GREAT* time. :tongue2 loved Tobacco Warehouse, as for clubs, now ill probably only go to Spirit or Pacha from now on...ill probably rarely go to Crobar going fwd (no space to dance, ever!!~), Summerstage will probably NEVER do it for me ever again...after this...iono not sure im going to party much after this -- guess I'll have to save money so I can go to the GUVERNMENT for the djs...right now that is the *only* venue/place where I can afford to go that's out of NYC and never disappointing...then again, not really liking the NYC venues right now...the scene/ppl though...are superb. :tongue2

i liked having that seating area separate...good respite from the hot dance area when you wanted to take a break...and the speakers there were perfect...hey, if i had plastic flooring on the ground (that was brought in for the event), i wouldn't want crunked* idiots SPILLING all over the floor, and you KNOW that happens when ppl drink alcohol at clubs...i hate it when the floors get all nasty and slippery from BEER and liquor EWWW!!! :whip: I mean, you probably can control yourself so thats a good thing :) but thats def NOT in the majority...
in terms of E, there was definitely a NO-DRUG policy there...no glowsticks or photons allowed...as well as that sign that said that you would be arrested if caught with drugs |

First time I've seen Armin in a long time and I thought he played an amazing set even though I dont listen to trance as much as I used to. You have to love the way he controls the crowd. Loved the crowd, vibe, and venue. Thought the bathroom situation was complete , and wasnt all about the beer but its alcohol so I cant complain.
Tracks of the night:
1983-Prydz mix
Plastik Fantastik (love the Calabria tool)
Sean Tyas - Lift... too bad Ryan is on a cruise, he would have loved it.
He also dropped some rediculous some track that had a latin sound to it, bongos maybe???
Great time, I'll definately be in attendence again next year. |
